**** I forgot to add Ogdens Nut Gone Flake I might need to do a new list because I forgot Joy Division, The Fall, Sonic Youth and Elliott Smith
Don't necessarily listen to all of these all of the time, but tried to think of those I've listened to most either at the time or that I keep coming back to: Screaming Trees - Sweet Oblivion Echo & the Bunnymen - Ocean Rain Bob Dylan - Highway 61 Revisited Television - Marquee Moon Manic Street Preachers - The Holy Bible The Clash - London Calling Stevie Wonder - Innervisions The Beatles - Revolver The Smiths - The Queen is Dead The Stone Roses - The Stone Roses There's songs by other artists I like more than any of the songs on any of these albums, indeed The Smiths have some far better songs than those on the album I've chosen, but Hatful of Hollow's a compilation album and I aren't choosing one of those...
The Sweet - Strung Up Theatre of Hate - Westworld Sex Pistols - Never Mind The Bollocks The Eagles - Hotel California The Beat - I Just Can't Stop It
Totally agree Amazing period They Won't Go When I Go is one of the greatest tracks ever for me and I will go to if I have to choose one
**** it, here's another 20 faves of mine Bruce Springsteen - The River Nirvana - In Utero Oasis - Definitely Maybe Spiritualized - Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space Massive Attack - Mezzanine Sam Cooke - Night Beat The Smiths - Strangeways, Here We Come Radiohead - A Moon Shaped Pool The Beatles - Rubber Soul Otis Redding - Otis Blue/Otis Redding Sings Soul The Smashing Pumpkins - Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness Joy Division - Closer Lou Reed - Transformer David Bowie - Blackstar Pixies - Bossanova Galaxie 500 - On Fire New Order - Low-Life Electronic - Electronic Stevie Wonder - Innervisions John Williams - The Empire Strikes Back: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack
My opinion on compilations is that if the compilation is mostly non-album stuff (ie. Hatful of Hollow or Oasis' The Masterplan), it's fine. If it's a 'best of' compilation (maybe with the exception of Robert Johnson or someone from before albums were a thing), it's a no-no.
Add the Stone Roses to the mix but saying that no decent Stone Roses compilations it was all done far better on The Stone Roses reissue which had everything from Elephant Stone onwards but sadly didnt have Sally Cinamon and its excellent B-sides.
I think that reissue you refer to is just the old comp. Turns Into Stone, which is a good collection of all the non-album singles and b-sides bar Sally Cinnamon. I do have a 12" EP of Sally Cinnamon that belonged to my old man (as well as both SR albums), still works like new.
First record I bought was Elephant Stone 12' vinyl though I do have Sally Cinamon on 7' vinyl but I bought that much later. I do love All Accross The Sands
Gonna add to mine as people remind me, and as they come back to me, so here goes Transformer - Lou Reed Down By The Jetty - Doctor Feelgood Sheer Heart Attack - Queen Night At The Opera - Queen Atlantic Crossing - Rod Stewart Il Divo - Absolutely anything by them!
Like others, can't do definitive as it's a big list and changes. Best thing is to do the 5 albums I'm listening to most right now. Jackie Mittoo - Macka Fat U2 - The Unforgettable Fire RHCP - Blood Sugar Sex Magik Don Drummond - The Best of REM - Automatic for the People
All Mod Cons-The Jam Kate Bush-A Kick Inside New Order-Power,corruption and lies The Icicle Works-The Icicle works The Stone Roses-The Stone Roses
The Beatles White Album Lana Del Rey Ultraviolence Les Rallizes Denudes Heavier than a Death in the Family OST A Film about Jimi Hendrix Eurhythmics Savage
I could easily have included If You Want To Defeat Your Enemy Sing His Song or (a tad hypocritically) 7 Singles Deep. Criminally underrated band
