The accusation thrown at me was that I had criticised Arsenal's model, but had since propounded the same model for Spurs.

I have pointed out that I never criticised Arsenal for finish top 4 every year for two decade and that, in fact, I had praised them for doing that. I pointed out that my criticism of Wenger has always been that he has achieved relatively little in that time. One would have expected at least another couple of league titles and at least one major European trophy.

Finally, I pointed out that, if Spurs have that kind of top 4 success and a similarly poor return on trophies, I would be the first to criticise.

Rose did not say that his opinion is shared by other players; he made it clear that it was his opinion that other players were not being paid what they are worth.

Two completely different things.

They are the words of someone who has been told that he isn't getting an improved contract.

The part of me that's a Spurs fan would love to have some of the success he's bought for Chelsea. But the part of me that's a fair minded person would feel somehow dirty at how it had been achieved.

 

It was as though he was inviting derision from us Yids, knowing full well that we had been ripping the piss out of Gooners for years about them winning the "we came 4th again" trophy.

Do you seriously think he's the only one who is dissatisfied with the wages ? The standard have literally said that other senior Spurs players are 'frustrated' with the wage structure.

I have read what Rose actually said, and he does not say that the other players are of the same opinion as him, but that he is expressing his opinion that there are other players who are not being paid what they are worth.

It doesn't matter what The Standard writes, if they are embellishing what Rose actually said.

We are going through a transitional phase at this point in the club's development.

Without the kind of cash that the teams around have to spend, we need to finish as high as we can in the league, and try to maximise CL revenue. That has got to be our first aim.

If, during the course of achieving that aim, we win a trophy, that will obviously be a bonus; but it cannot be our primary goal.

Should we find ourselves in the enviable position, 18 years from now, having spent every one of the past 20 seasons in the top 4, reaping the benefit of CL money, and should we not have won anything during that time, that would be a valid cause to level criticism at the club.
