It was a naming rights issue. They built the training facility and then used the naming rights deal to circumvent the revenue raised by ticket sales sponsorship deals in relation to that new facility, which included the whole Etihad stadium.

For a side like Spurs, the game is all about survival.

And survival, for Spurs, is about maintaining a revenue stream that meets our increasing overheads.

We might not pay the best wages in the division, but our wage bill has increased significantly over the past few seasons. We have a new Academy and a new state-of-the-art stadium to pay for.

Winning the FA Cup isn't going to pay for all of that.

Winning a European title, as great as that would be, isn't something that any side can set out to achieve.

Winning the title is something that very teams will ever achieve in any given decade.

So, what are we left with?

Finishing as high as we can in the league and trying to stay in the CL for as long as we can. That represents the best revenue stream for Spurs.

If, in the process of striving to achieve that aim, we win a trophy that is a bonus. It isn't what the game is about.

So then seeing as you've have said that Spurs need to openly adopt Arsenal's policy of developing youth whilst you pay for the stadium, you will naturally have to back track on your assertion that Arsenal simply finishing in the top 4 whilst doing this was a failure.
