When they do it out of the transfer budget they are.

We've recently had an expansion, now they need to invest in the team. They've spent **** all since being our owners really (net that is). Fair play to them for expanding Anfield but we need players now, expand again in a few years.

He'll either go to Chelsea or Citeh or stay IMO.

In my mind He'll stay until the club have proved their point and then go to a club he didn't get tapped up by and go on strike to force a move to.

He will then turn out to be not that flash, actually a bit ****. And injured a lot. Holland will miss out on a World Cup finals and in a few years time Dutch tv will do a quick, last-minute filler piece on the summer that everyone though VVD was going to Liverpool but instead ended up in the stands eating pies and did a Fat Elvis.

I agree he will go , but I hope they let him rot in the reserves , if he does not grow up . Teach him a lesson and sell then .

Rotting in the reserves isn't going to do anything except risk lowering his price.

You'll sell him at some point so surely just do it now with time left to replace?

Fair comment , but I feel we have to make a stand this time , not saying we will , but feel we should do .

I wouldn't get caught up in this 'making a stand' nonsense tbh mate. Even if you do 'make a stand' with VVD it won't stop other players doing it.

The games far too down the gutter for a stand by Southampton to make any difference, to your club or any others.

With that attitude nothing will ever change and it will just encourage players to act up to get their way. We should definately make sure that VVD doesn't entirely get his way.
This is a competitive sport and it's not right that the richer clubs can effectively eliminate others competing by buying their better players. we don't need to sell and if we lose a few million by not giving in then it cannot be bad for football.
I understand that the status quo suits you very well.

I'm just being realistic. Of course as a football fan I'd like all this nonsense to stop. But I honestly think it's passed that now.

The Neymar transfer just confirmed EVERYTHING about football transfers is an absolute state. Clubs can't fix it now, it'll take action from governing bodies, but even they tried with FFP but that went well didn't it?!!

It's in a terrible state of affairs tbh. I admire your fans optimism and wish you well with it, but in reality it's a drop in the ocean regarding the problem as a whole.

On VVD I think as soon as he handed in that request your club should have just said 'right we'll sell, but we want a world record fee or you're staying put' - I think that would have kept him happy, the fans reasonably happy and your club would have a shed load of cash to reinvest.

Of course that won't help football like you want, but I don't think anything will that Southampton or Liverpool can do.

We're in the eye of the storm, the 48 hours of respectful silence between handing in the transfer request and opening negotiations

Very much agree with your first part of your post but on VD, it's possible we have said that behind the scenes? Know really knows? All the above 195 pages is 99.9% guesswork by people who know nought. However, a stand now maybe just the step SFC need to show we have progressed, if only marginally, from a "developing club" (polite way of saying a selling club) to something more ambitious. Yep, fans have really no effective say but it might change the perceptions of those pretentious "TV experts" pricks who generally side with the big clubs. We've seen only this week a number of pundits say SFC are wrong but LFC are right over a similar stance - and I mean about selling or not selling. And please, lets not get into a debate about VD wanting to leave & PC not wanting too - as I'm sure it's been referenced somewhere above <laugh>
