That's bordering on kopite levels of delusion, he's arguably the best LB in the League ffs

Of course it's about money, it's always about money. He's on £60k a week at Spuds, and knows (via his agent) that he could more than double that at United or Chelsea.

I think we should really be looking at a sweepstake for which player will blow a gasket next at Spurs.

My money is on Eric Dier.

    Toby.

Not had a new contract sorted yet, and he's on a miserly £50k a week the poor lamb

  6. He's on £65k a week.

Is he the best LB in the division?

He didn't play for an entire season. How does anyone know how he will compare in his first season back?

The pre-injury Rose is certainly worth more than £65k a week, and would probably already had a pay-rise, had he played last season. I suspect that's the major part of his current beef with the club.

This is why the Walker sale is such a mistake. When the young spudlings see what Walker earns and the inevitable success he will get at City, they'll all want some.

Spurs is a stepping stone for players who want to win things (and get paid well), that's pretty much fact.

I think Kane looks happy to be a big fish. Rose, Alli etc wont last long.

I agree with that, but I don't see what any club can do to maximise their chance of winning trophies other than optimising the way they run the club. I suppose we could say to hell with the league and throw everything at the FA Cup, but I think we then go the way of Wigan and Portsmouth pretty soon as that creates no money to keep the players you've put in the shop window by winning something. As a retired player I would prefer to have been in one of those cup winning sides but as a fan of Spurs I want to maximise our chance of continuing near the top rather than have a one off splurge of glory followed by collapse.

Only resonates with the vast majority of Spurs fans because they're all having meltdowns <laugh>

  15. Every club is a "stepping stone" to somewhere else.

What counts is (a) how long the originating club can hold the player, and (b) to maximise the success of the club whilst the player remains.

Even if Spurs had won the title in either of the last two seasons, I think we'd still be facing these issues.

It isn't about trophies, it's about money.

If you are a fan of any club other than the small handful that are state-back money-trees with limitless funds, the view will be that money is killing the game.

I'm more practically-minded about the whole thing.

The only way to stop what is currently happening to Spurs from happening is for us to sell out, like City and Chavs have done. Do I want that to happen? No, most certainly I do not! Therefore, I have to be pragmatic, and accept the fact that any decent player we buy in is going to have a short shelf-life, and that we have to try to maximise our success during the time-frame that we manage to hold on to that player and, when it comes to being forced to let him go we need to maximise our return in order to keep reinvesting in our youth.

I live for the day when we are able to field XI players nurtured from our own academy. I think home-grown players tend to be more loyal to the club than players bought in who had no former allegiance to the club. That is the way of the Football World. I think most Spurs fans understand and accept that.

It's clear to everybody else what's gone on. The 'shrewd genius' has been underpaying his players and now they want out.

  18. I don't see any Spurs fan having a meltdown.

I am sure there are so-called Spurs fans, somewhere in the country, having a meltdown right now, but I'll warrant that such "fans" are either kids who don't know any better, or those of extremely low intelligence. Every club has those kinds of fans, albeit that Arsenal undoubtedly has more than its fair share of both.

I see you've changed your tune on this.
It wasn't so long ago that you were saying that you'd be up for seeing a rich owner come into spurs and pump money into the squad.
