He usually starts the season well and then as soon as the average temperature drops below like 15c he becomes a chocolate teapot for 6 months!
Key word is effective.... in theory I like the attacking threat he possesses, but at the moment, I've not seen him used enough in a capacity to use it. As we know, Puel used him in a range of positions and none were consistently effective; whilst I agree part of this is down to manager I think Redmond needs to use his brain sometimes and take more risks for himself and mature as a player. He's quick to have whinge when it's not on a plate for him, but he needs to go out and get things done for himself. I think MoPel is the man to encourage this, but Saturday vs Sevilla was same old, same old IMHO.
I hear what you're saying, but we've seen big improvements already, and he's still essentially a kid. I think he'll play a big part this season.
Agreed.... I know he's young, I just want to see more than whinging from him. I queried JWPs place this time 2 years ago and last year but he's making steady progress and is noticeably better year on year. Obviously I know it's only his second pre season with us but just don't want to see him occupy a space but not produce an end result.
The other point about Redmond is that the age thing doesn't carry as much weight with him - he may be young but he's actually a relatively experienced player, having made over 200 league appearances (just over 100 in the Championship, just over 100 in the Premier League).
I thought Redmond improved massively through last season. Long before the end of the season he wasn't taking on the one-man-too-many and he was picking out good passes at the end of his runs. I suspect this may be his season to shine. Unfortunately, the crowd's opinion changes in the manner of a supertanker so even at the end of the season the fans were regularly on his back, but that'll change. Vin
Wouldn't be surprised if Long is sold as he wanted out toward the end of last season. That was seemingly put on hold with the sacking of Puel and Pelligrino coming in, but he would presumably have a good idea now of how much playing time he'll likely get under the new manager. And from what I've seen in pre season, he hasn't looked particularly enthused.
