Mind, if I came from Gortnahoe, they'd probably have a song about my IT skills (and my devilishly handsome good looks)
But he had done that once in his career in the top flight. He lacks consistency, ball control and shooting . Other than that, I agree with you...
I know I'm probably going to get slaughtered for even thinking this, but there's part of me that would like to see what ShLong could do in an old style Jay Rod wide left/right position. Currently, I don't see Tadic or Redmond being effective on the wing; they don't rotate, they don't use the last 20m of the wings in the attacking half, and neither have effective pace. ShLong has pace and is used to holding up play if needed. Might be disastrous but I'm getting frustrated with the lack of effective/useful work from Redmond or Tadic.
I actually think Tadic should've been moved on this summer. Good player no doubt but massively hit and miss, will turn 29 this year so last chance to get really good money and we have younger players vying for his position in the team so would've made some space for them. Also would've allowed us to sign that goal scoring attacking mid everyone wants
Too late in the window to even contemplate Dusan going anywhere. I'm hoping we see a reinvigorated version of him. How we could do with him being on song from the get go.
With no solid rumours and only a few weeks till the window closes, I'm guessing that most (and probably) all of our main players are staying. Just seen the reported tweet from Shane Long's wife (if true)....I hope she's talking about switching from Sainsburys to Asda.
I think next year would be time to move Tadic on, he's a decent starter or squad player for us this year but then I think we need a little refresh. Next summer could be busy if the likes of Van Dijk (??) Yoshida, Cedric, Bertrand and Tadic move on. Then consider squad players looking to move for game time - Long, Clasie etc. And could we hang onto Boufal and Gabbi if they have great seasons?
I'd rather Gabbi and Boufal had good seasons and then worry about keeping them....I fear that Boufal is one of those talents that are talked about but only seen on rare occasions.
Interesting that Long is suddenly a potential departure just as a possible Luciano Vietto arrival appears in the news. Young, quick, skilful and unfulfilled potential. Oh and Argentinian, just like our new manager. I would be really happy to see this young fella arrive.
If Long goes then I expect Gallagher to be the 3rd choice. He was told he could fight for a place when he signed his new deal and would make sense with only 2 others competing for a spot
Tenuous link. http://sportwitness.co.uk/sale-southampton-given-clear-signal-opening-talks-sign-player-july/
