They must have spent £20m of that on bent journos though, rather than putting it on top of £100m and getting close to our asking price, but again, you're missing the point. I think you are right. The clubs are very similar in trying to achieve their goals. Clearly VvD was/is still a key target for us and we went hard for him. But Barca need that star acquisition to soften the blow of Neymar's departure. They are trying to make us accept a fee that would be acceptable for them as the whole world knows that they have £200m in their pockets. We just don't have to make it easy for them. If we are going to let him go, then we must get them to pay...handsomely (£130m+) and get them to share some of that windfall.
