Sorry, what's the negative for us?

We get extra money from the sale and it makes virgil look the villain. Shows we have balls if we keep him and vindicates us if we don't.

I think the point is skylarker that the meeting took place. You should also remember VVD's own comments about the discussion with your manager. We may not know the Exact words that were used, but nor do you. So why should we as fans accept Liverpools or their fans version of events rather than our own clubs version. The one consistent thing about this is VVD's stated wish, and Saints stance.
I'm sure the Liverpool fans would be just as disappointed if one of their star players were to make a similar stance as VVD.

Wow Southampton have balls. What's that going to do to help the club? Seriously it's all business. Of course fans see it differently, owners don't unfortunately.

So you think we should constantly bend over for the big boys and primadonna players?

So where does it end exactly? We're rightly described as a selling club but the only way to stop that is to ya know, not sell players.

If we can't stand firm in this situation is there ever one where we will in your opinion?

The 'personal attack' is irrelevant as most people in football realise it's bullshit.

There is always a way back and he'll still be worth big bucks next Summer.

Not totally, just means that the next time someone poaches a southampton player without southampton agreeing to it, it will disincentivise the player going on strike

I see people using their mobiles while driving, I am pissed off with people speeding outside my house, I saw a bloke leave the pub and drive home last night having downed six pints, I witnessed a woman shoplifting this morning, I have just seen a woman jump a red light, a bloke down the pub at lunchtime offered me some smuggled ***s dirt cheap, people have TVs but no licence, they drive untaxed cars and don't have insurance. They are all breaking the rules but thank **** we don't all do it which is contrary to what you are suggesting. Your saying everyone does it (which they don't) so we can all do it. Therein lies the road to anarchy and chaos.

Of course we would. I'd want us to sell immediately and rid the ****er out the club. Not be stubborn to prove we're not a selling club.

Apart from the 7 months to think - he said he told the club 6 months ago, so it took him 4 weeks the poor lamb.

According to VVD he didn't go on strike. That's part of the problem. The football world are seeing a club and their captain have a public falling out and both sides are denying what the other said. Looks amazing that like!

Sell him and move on. Buy a CB or 2 and stop crying <ok>

Maybe they are trying to do a suarez on him and he'll come back hungrier and more raring to go? I bet you wasn't sad to see suarez retained even reneging on a very poorly written release clause.

That's one of the stupidest ****ing parts of his statement.

No one has said he refused to train, it's common knowledge he was asked to train alone by mp after him saying his head was in the wrong place.

The whole statement is a ****ing farce and I could pick holes all day if felt inclined to.

". Les won't give that evidence though as he wants a good business relationship to carry on between the clubs. "

    I don't buy this.
I'm sure Les would prefer to keep our best players, once in a while, to try and open up a gap between us and the other mid table teams, in the hope of closing the gap on the top teams and nicking the occasional Europa League place.
I would imagine that p1ssing off the one club that regularly cherry picks our best players, in the hope you will find dealing with us too traumatic and difficult to continue, would be very near the top of his wish list.

Even though they had been obviously tapped up?
Oh and don't bother to argue he wasn't tapped up. Can you honestly say we have sold someone when they still have 5 years or so left on their contract after a recent signature?
It is not about proving we are a non selling club.........now come on.........it is the principle of signing the long contract then almost immediately trying to negate on it.
