There's quite a difference between telling the press you want a player and having private secret meetings with a contracted player to discuss where he will fit in your team and what tactics you'd adopt.

No but still it's a private meeting behind the clubs back.

They had a meeting, but people are allowed to meet each other. What happened at that meeting isn't clear. The FA don't think anything happened that's worthy of taking it further, so until Les gives the evidence it's a legit friendly meeting

Obviously it's not legit and we were idiots. Les won't give that evidence though as he wants a good business relationship to carry on between the clubs.

Meetings go on more than people think btw. We hardly kidnapped him or anything!

I'm glad that for once a Liverpool fan can see that his club isn't as good as gold and forever blamesless.
I agree that meetings go and people talk, that's how Lambert and lallana got their heads turned (I'm also messing and do know how it happens everywhere).
I think what irks most saints fans in the aggressive tactics in the media from ex-pros, particularly the Liverpool ones. It's very one sided.

Why would you randomly meet up with a player of another club? And to talk about what ? <doh>

And wasn't the story that followed about how VD had met other clubs? After meeting all the suitors he then wanted to play for Klopp?

Tbf a lot of the ex-Liverpool pundits talk ****. Steve Nichol and Redknapp are both idiots. Liverpool fans know this as much as others do.

We're over represented in the media, but that's just how it is. Doesn't mean the fans agree. I get the impression some people think the fans will always agree with the pundit due to both being Liverpool. it's nonsense. I happen to like listening to Gary Neville, but hated him as a player.

There just seems to be a massive amount of blame and **** thrown at Liverpool from Southampton, when the reality is a lot of it stems from previous transfers. If this was Chelsea that got caught meeting VVD the reaction would be very different. You'd still all moan about Chelsea, but no where near to the extent that's happening now.

I still think Man City will come in and buy him, making all this irrelevant anyway!

I don't think 'letting him rot' is the answer like a large portion of your fans do, that's just knee jerk imo. You just need to sell him now and move on. You were without him for half of last season, it's hardly going to make too much noticeable difference and there's still plenty of time to get another CB or 2.

    Football <ok>

Whatever was discussed has to be proven, and it hasn't, so moot point.

Simple...Saints got what they wanted and drove Liverpool away. Why start a war with a team in the same league when you don't have to.

I assume you mean the fans as the club has not said anything since Liverpool got caught with their pants down.

From my point of view it is definitely worse because it's once again Liverpool who is unsettling a Saints player. How many have you had now? It's gone too far and I would have thought even the Liverpool fans would be getting a bit embarrassed by now. Most of the other top 6 do at least make some effort to find their own talent instead of just looking to see who Saints have.

Yeah I'm on about the fans. Not many Saints pundits about so it's hard to compare - although Le Tiss is clearly wound up about it <laugh>

I agree I'd rather not deal with Southampton for a while, it just so happens that we need a CB and you have one of the best around. I think in an ideal world we'd look elsewhere, but Klopp had his targets and one happened to be VVD. If you think Klopp has specifically looked at Southampton and thought 'who do we want?' then you're all madder than I thought! <ok>

None of us know what went on....apart from a trip to Blackpool...but obviously it lighted Les's blue touch paper. Wouldn't want to be in the room when that happened. I suspect that either VVD or his agent tried to present him with a fait accompli. Whatever....the owners of Liverpool acted quickly because of Liverpool having previous. Perhaps we had solid grounds for complaint or Liverpool panicked. Doesn't matter because the result was the same....Les probably leaned back smoking the metaphorical cigar amazed it was that easy.

The hard part is winning the staring competition with VVD....I'd put my money on the bald guy.

So this is what Saints wanted? late into the transfer window their captain handing in a transfer request with a scathing attack on the club?

This whole saga has been full of **** ups from all sides. It's been an absolute shocker, lets be honest here.

If we're being honest then I don't see what we've done wrong.

How dare we want to make a player honour a minimum of a 3rd of a 6 year deal he signed less than year ago.

Silly us, we should just bend over for the **** <doh>

I don't know Klopp is pretty mad. <laugh>

He seems to only have 2 targets and he doesn't look like he is getting either. Is he looking elsewhere? Seeing as Liverpool tell the press about everything it certainly doesn't look like it. At least Saints are a bit more flexible and don't end up without anybody if they need a player. It will be interesting to see if he does manage to improve the team or just pigheadedly digs his heels in. I don't understand why he hasn't moved on by now, the clock is ticking and there are plenty of players out there if you can be bothered to look......oh I see the problem. :D

Sell him when he clearly wants to go and have the money to invest in your team. It's hardly bending over <doh>

Now you've had a personal attack launched on your club by your captain, hardly good PR.

It's quite clear he won't play for you lot again, at that stage you should have sold. That's what happens in football today as it's all about the £££.

But let's get one up on him and 'let him rot' - that's a great idea yeah?

    "Seems like"

You accused someone last week of speculating whilst speculating yourself. You are rapidly becoming the king of speculation
