Absolutely, in the little of pre season I've witnessed he looks like he is brimming with confidence. Think the club would be foolish to not be cashing in on that momentum and starting him. Obviously the ideal would have been him and Virgil, but even if we sell Virgil I only see us signing the one centre back and playing him alongside Jack.
It's more the sheer number of gilt-edged chances that fell to players in our box with that pairing. When they got out of shape, they really got out of shape. Again, doesn't mean that he cannot improve, just that he needs to.
There's plenty of question marks hanging around, but a lot of positives as well. Mario could well be a beautiful piece of the jigsaw, if he forms a formidable partnership with Oriol, then we can take some pressure of the back line & let them grow and develop more. Experience is key, its going to be a rollacoaster! I'm excited, the battle for points is fast approaching.
I'll be happy if he turns out to 80% as good as Schneiderlin. Closing down, regaining possession and the speed we turn that into attack were not good enough last season. High hopes.
I actually think Mario might match Morgan with his attributes in all but passing, but hopefully this can be developed. He and OR operating in front of the CBs l think will make a significant difference to goals conceded and his physicality is a bonus; his height at set plays brings another threat we have lacked.
Agreed TLL; in terms of physical presence our midfield has looked like a group of cast-offs from a smurf movie
McCarthy is dead again apparently. Why we had the German keeper on trial. So keeper to come in I guess.
In his three seasons with us, Tadic's best form by far was being played wide left ripping a full back and crossing (in old money that's a winger) ... what I like about him, Boufal, Redmond and even Long as back up is the option to play them wide either side or centrally (Long not so behind the striker). So we have three maybe four players who can play wide. An out and out winger may be nice, but I'd suggest someone would likely need to go.
I love the honeymoon period with a new player....he's all sparkly and fresh and we haven't seen him playing for Southampton. All the fans so full of hope with ideas for songs when he reveals himself as footballing genius. #grumpythismorning
Fine with that if he goes for 12m as long as we get a single decent replacement for JRod+Longy = £24m
