Totally agree with your second part. If the indication of Derby at Sunderland is anything to go by. Bypass the midfield and go long and high at every opportunity- awful to watch.

I see your point and on the main I agree with you. However I think there is just about a place for him.
I am a big believer in the two players per position school of thought and if we sign Larsson I think we meet that mark:
    Defensive midfielder to break play:
    Stewart/Meyler
    Ball playing defensive midfielder:
    Clucas/Larsson
    Attacking midfielder:
Henriksen /Evandro (not counting Mason, he is miles away from playing still).

I don't count the young lads, we need experience in the middle of the park.

However anyone thinking Meyler is the heartbeat of a midfield is having a laugh. He covers ground, likes a challenge and can run all day. However his passing is not great, doesn't have great vision, and an get himself dragged into things too easily.

I have no doubt he is a great pro, but I expect him to be 4th choice for the holding midfielder spot

More fool him for deciding to go and play under Rowett, ****ing suicidal career decision for him.

We now have players that cost more than Meyler., so he's out and they're in. It's a **** way of looking at things but it does happen.

No we'll have four CM and a slow, lost pace RW. Larsson is not a CM - or to be more precise, he wasn't in the PL and I don't expect that to change. If you disagree with that, then your assessment makes sense from your perspective, but it doesn't from mine.

Here we go again - meylers great Huddleston's **** - I appreciate you can't help it but trust me , meyler is not great - if he passes forward he gives the ball away so he passes backwards and only gives the ball away half the time- he runs around in circles because he hasn't got a football brain to be in the right place and he crashes into people giving away free kicks - if you call that breaking the play up then so be it - I call it ****

There was an interesting interview on RH last night, with the BBC Sport reporter from Sunderland.

He said Larsson has spent the last couple of seasons as a defensive midfielder and that's now his best position. He said he can't play 90 minutes twice a week, but that used correctly he'll be an excellent addition, who always gives his all.

He also said getting a player of his ability for nothing was an absolute no brainier.

No you just read what you want as we all know. I used sterlings own criteria. Meylers crap cos he had a lot if average games. Tom had two years of it. He's now gone to derby the home of comfortable high earning under achievers. That's toms career, frustrating to see a talented player not achieve what he should have done.

Been desperately searching this thread for news of a new signing, then see this!

Well that's conformation the allams are just asset stripping, such a versatile player gone without a fight to keep him.

His release clause was rumoured to be a crate of Stella, two bottles of tanqueray 10 and a box of crisps.

<laugh> Yes DM is probably his best position, as he lost any pace to play elsewhere, that doesn't make him a good DM. Totally agree about his ability to play more than 90mins per week and that won't improve; if anything ...

If we were desperate enough to need a poor, lacking stamina, ex-RW, now dropping into a poor DM role, who has the main benefit of a seasoned football brain, dressing room experience and an outstanding ability to stand and point (its an in joke to those who have followed him) then yes, he's a no brainer. But we could use his squad place and wages better elsewhere.

Three seasons ago my view would have been more forgiving, but I'm not a Sunderland supporter and it can't be today, for Hull City. Any idea what his contract terms are expected to be?

I don't know who the reporter was, but I would imagine he is on good first name terms with Seb, who is a decent guy and a favourite of the reporters after a long stint at S'land.

Yes, for me it only makes sense on the club's part if that's what's happening. I really don't see your point on this.

And even if it was my idea to sign Larsson it wouldnt even remotely suggest that I don't rate Clucas. Also we seem to be ignoring the part about Meyler potentially playing at right back being a reason.

It's a statement without any clarification. Why is playing under Gary Rowett career suicide?
