You can't chase the player or bid anything, just pay the amount we set out at the start of the window minus the loyalty payment, simple as that. If you're going to give in and pay, i would look to do it quick though. There's is a time limit to this.

I admit it would be enjoyable if saints were to issue an official response that points out the lies in his statement (for the sake of argument I am assuming it is packed full of them ) and as a result are fining him further for bringing the club into disrepute / damaging reputation

The same or worse would happen to anyone else who did something similar to their employers

That said i doubt there is an official mechanism or dare I say it "protocol" for this.

And of course it would make things worse if that is possible

for me the blame here lies at the door of his new agents, they really are the cancer of the game. If I had my way I would enforce that clubs are not allowed to pay an agent and all fees are capped at a % directly from the player.

Anyone that thinks VVD sat down at his pc this morning and typed that letter is deluded. We are talking about modern day footballers here who are used to having everything done for them. He is being badly advised, albeit giving them permission to carry these actions out but they will have been in his ear every day since January. Why? Because for the agents he is one of their biggest assets who they are yet to earn a penny out of to date.
