Dont think he can afford to kick up a fuss. He could get isolated like Sakho and there is the small matter of a world cup next year.
Liverpool news: Dutch manager backs van Dijk move Current Netherlands boss Dick Advocaat has no issue with the Dutch international trying to force his hand According to a report in the Daily Star , Virgil van Dijk has the backing of his international manager, Advocaat saying that you may condemn the player but he understands why the player would want to earn five times more at Anfield. Van Dijk told Southampton manager Mauricio Pellegrino that he wanted to leave and was not in a position to play for the club. Pellegrino’s reaction was to tell the central defender to train alone.
Clearing the debt was a necessary part of his takeover, and its known cost was already factored into his discounted price to buy in He's got you to the brink of a move that he invests zero of his own money and saddles the club with a 40 year mortgage while his own shares benefit from the asset value He is very clever, any businessman can be an asset stripper, but to actually have the fans cheering him for it is genius
Let's make this absolutely clear. Every club owner is doing it for profit. Even Manchester City. Sure, occasionally a super wealthy ego might get carried away but I can assure you that they only care about money and that the football club that they buy is an investment. To that end, debt is not the issue. Debt is a sign, if your asset value is increasing, that you are investing properly. The same principle is used in share valuation. Shareholders love to see Capital invested and growth achieved. Where it goes wrong is when said owner, and said ego get carried away, get it all wrong and invest way to much on the wrong Coach and players....looking for instant success rather than building slowly.....and then because it is their money, panic, get as much back as they possibly can and leave the club high and dry. So as much as we slate super wealthy owners or FSG or whatever type of owner is in charge of our or our competitors club, just remember that they are all, ultimately, looking to make money out of their asset (our clubs). Some over a long period, some with a 5 year 'buy it low, sell it high' short term plan and everything in between. They are not invested like we are. They don't care about individual players and some don't care as much as they should about trophies....They are only interested in making money, regardless of club. So before we slate each other's owners, let's make sure that we all understand that, regardless of business model, their only aim is to get richer......at our (the fans) expense.
You've just described FSG's business model as demonstrated by Liverpool's minimal transfer spend when clubs are suddenly awash with cash.
At least FSG's business model is related to the success of the club itself Moshiri's long game is to buy up dockland and see it's price soar as the council and EFC invest in the area Best part is he also gets EFC to buy the stadium for him All of Moshiri's talk of #ambition very quickly turned to "EL is good enough"
That's just smart imo. City had a stadium handed to them on a plate. West Ham similar. All of the time the value of his asset is increasing. If he gets the investment spot on, he might also get a winning team and then Bingo, he's increased his investment 5 fold. FSG's motives are absolutely no different. Grow the value of the asset = make money. Period.
BREAKING NEWS Virgil van Dijk has handed in a transfer request at Southampton. A statement issued via his management company reads: “It is with regret that I can confirm that I have today handed in a transfer request to leave Southampton Football Club. “Unfortunately I feel I have no alternative after I was given notice of the Club's intention to impose a disciplinary sanction against me of a fine equivalent to 2 weeks wages. I will be appealing what I feel to be an unjustified sanction and their inability to follow the correct disciplinary protocol in due course. “Over the past six months I have held numerous discussions with representatives of the board, the former manager Claude Puel as well as the new manager Mauricio Pellegrino to inform them all of my desire to leave the club in search of a new challenge. “I am incredibly ambitious and want to achieve as much as I possibly can to fulfil my potential in what is a very short career as a professional footballer. I want to play European football again and challenge for major honours and as such I would like Southampton to consider the interest in me from top clubs should it still exist.” Us or Chavs or city - I still think city Jimmy ??
Roman bought Chelsea for peanuts. It's value is now what? A billion? What about when, inevitably, a breakaway European super league is formed? Roman has played a long game. Very well. He's absolutely no different.
Can we still be unbeaten by top six or eight clubs in the coming season considering that we have not signed more top players?.
