The Virgil Van Dijk Stays at Southampton Thread

I still get the same match day excitement, but I can feel something changing. This whole Virgil episode would have worried me loads three years ago, now I feel a little ambivalent. He goes, he stays, whatever. Like Beefy says, don't get attached.

 

As I happen to be shortly celebrating my 59th birthday in September, you'll realise that I was a football fan right up the creation of the Premier League. That's a long run in itself. The beautiful game used to be a sport first, then a business. Now it's the other way around and it is too much money that has made it so. That started with the Premier League.

You're quite right. Imagine the goals against column at West Brom if they were fielding Ramos and his characteristic "30 attacks per match leaving the defense short and exposed" style. It's not comparing apples with apples.

 

To be fair, he did at least sympathise with our situation which is more than most pundits have taken the liberty of doing

You have to wonder what VVD's team mates at Southampton think about him saying there is not enough quality in the squad so he wants to join a team where there is...

Not worried about losing him but strongly feel he must be forced to sit this transfer window out otherwise you can forget about the value of contracts (assuming you haven't already). Given his stance, irrespective of whether he has actually asked for a transfer, surely we can cancel his loyalty bonus when he does eventually leave....??

 

Nope, as he hasn't handed in a request yet.

 

I dont understand VVD , why not just hand in a transfer request if he wants to go. He will lose whatever loyalty bonus etc he has written in his contract, but so what? Money means little to footballers anyway, i dont quite get what his game is,its all rather odd.
