I wouldn't mind an exclusion zone, does it come with parking?

Sorry to disagree with those that think this is best side since chris nicholl but the side that that Glenn Hoddle put together before going to spurs played the best football I have seen a saints team play. ,why the fans were and still so angry with Hoddle for leaving beats me as we all knew when job came up he would go,,,he left us in a good position just a shame Lowe ruined it by appointing Stuart Grey instead of getting another experienced manager to replace Hoddle ,,plus was ashamed of fans when they stopped Hoddle coming back bad lack of insight ,where did we go after he wasn't appointed ?

The Hoddle team was OK. They were good at holding their own and some god players in there but not as stylish or attacking play as ChrisNicholl/Lawrie sides nor the current side.

Hoddles was in the era where christmas trees and wierd 4-1-2-2-1 etc formations were being touted about as the only way to catch the Italian teams up in europe. Can't remember Hoddle's formation but tonights machine is guinevere ;) Hoddle was pretty defensive. However at least he didn't put Le Tiss as a centre forward as he did for England.

What happened since then? Sir Alex et al said boogar those silly formations. 4-4-2 it is. Then everybody else in europe went back to 4-4-2 cos they couldn't beat the top4 from the prem. Every now and again when an english team feels confident (or wants to put 3 of their strikers in) they call it 4-3-3 when in effect all the time one is dropping back and you have...4-4-2.

Adkins is basically playing 4-4-2 with players having freedom to move from their positions when needed. A little like ManYou where their midfield swaps position all the time and Rooney swaps in there too. Toootal football.

It seems to me at the moment we're playing 4-4-2, then Adkins taks Connolly off for a midfielder and we become a flexible 4-3-3/4-5-1 with the wingers in a free role between attack and midfield depending on wether we're attacking or defending, seems to be working quite well!

These formations are all a little silly. Connolly comes off for a midfielder, Lallana goes into the 'hole' (WTF is the hole) and it becomes 4-4-1-1???.

Years ago that would still be 4-4-2 and not 4-4-1-1. After all they don't suggest that Stoke line up as 8-1-1 do they?

However we can say that a team is attacking or counter attacking or defensive etc. This side is most definitely attacking. All out attack when possible. Hoddle's was a little like hold in there and then do what you can when the chance arrives. Similar to WGS' sides which were graft hard, stay in the game and take your chances when they come.

He won't play for England if he plays for us,even if he was voted best player in prem, because to play for England you have to be in a top 4 team!!so stupid

I sat through the Hoddle era as a season ticket holder and I went to all the games in the early 1980s. No comparison between them. The Hoddle side were OK and held their own but most of the time I was bored by the pretty passing getting us nowhere fast. The current side excites me more than any Saints side has since those heady days of the early 1980s.

Yep, I remember that one. watched it with 2 spurs fans in my local. Was a great watch :) however was that not Strachan in charge? and was Hoddle not already the manager of Spurs? Me thinks so.

Yes Hoddle was in charge of Spurs that day. It was the year we got to the final in 2003.

Hoddle was in charge that day and we had Strachan, and I believe a couple of months later we won 3-1 at White Hart Lane, which ended up being Hoddle's last game for Spurs?

He's been able to do that ball-tied-to-his-feet trick for years, so his skills are well grounded. I've got a video of him during his academy days where he does that, and also some of the tricks he pulled on opposition players during academy games. It's fantastic to watch.

That's true. It was the next season. The only difference to the Saints team was that by then we had Kevin Philips playing. Outplayed them that day too.

Just having a quick look at the link provided by ImpSaint.

    http://www.readytogo.net/smb/showthread.php?t=617945

Love the way that, in the first line of the first comment they get it wrong. Left footed is he..? How can you tell..? Does he play football like Wayne Bridge..? Lallana is one of the most two footed footballers I've ever seen. He doesn't favour one foot over the other, but I do think he's right footed originally. <laugh>

They say he's lightning quick as well. That should please the peeps on here who say he lacks pace..!

I'll read on. This could be quite entertaining.
