Good stuff from Jonny Bairstow and Jimmy Anderson today for England. Jimmy bowling from the end with the stand which now bears his name; he took a wicket with his third ball from that end! I would like to see Bolt win the 100m later tonight, but I'm not sure he's got enough to run faster than Coleman. May need to go below 9.90 seconds. Or maybe he's just been bluffing; perhaps he still has another gear to find when it matters.
The worst result possible for athletics. As the BBC article says, perhaps boo the IAAF more than Gatlin. They let him back in, no doubt taking the easy route instead of fighting it in court, and assuming that he'd never win anything having been banned for so long. Now they say they're the best organisation for cleaning up the sport. Gatlin is pretty fast for 36 isn't he...
Maybe if the BBC adopted that same attitude when Christine Ohuruogu won Olympic gold in spite of being a drug cheat it wouldn't look like the obvious double standard that it is...
There may be circumstances in which you give a sportsman a second chance when found to be a drugs cheat (or any other form of cheat), especially if they are young and naive or there was some mistake involved. There should always be a chance of redemption and rehabilitation. But Gatlin has been found out twice. His presence alongside one of the greatest athletes ever is offensive and brings the sport into disrepute. Athletics should realise this when all the attention is focused on Gatlin's history of cheating and not his performance as an athletic. The IAAF have scored an own goal. If he is clean, he put in a very creditable performance for a 36 year old to win in 9.92 seconds. But who's interested?
With the BBC being the BBC, they tried to pass of the crowd booing Gatling as the crowd being upset Bolt didn;t win. No, you drain on £145 per annum, that was not it: the crowd were pissed off because not only did a two-time drug cheat win, but they were obnoxiously celebrating their win - until the cameras caught up with him, at which point he "showed" his "respect" to Usain Bolt with at least two cameras pointing at him.
For me the booing may be the best possible thing for athletics. The moment that should have been the greatet moment of Gatling's career was totally destroyed by the way he got there. Take note youngsters.
The father of two-time drug cheat Justin Gatlin says the booing of his son, especially when he was obnoxiously celebrating his victory in the crowd's faces, is "disrespectful to the sport" ...I may have embellished the headline somewhat
Watching some of South Korea's performances in the Overwatch World Cup have made me realise something: when up against the kimchee fueled killing machine that is Mano, ZUNBA, Saebyeolbe, tobi, ryujehong and Fl0w3r, the pros are almost as bad at the game as I am ...and this is what your cricket talk looks like to me.
