I think he wants to play for Liverpool if given a free choice, but would accept any good club just to get away from the poisonous atmosphere at Southampton

 

The atmosphere that he created himself by being a ****ing tart and flaunting himself. He was happy enough to sign a 6 year deal.

I'm pretty sure he was never expecting to play for Southampton for the next 6 years and it was about helping the club get good value for him. Then when a club comes along willing to offer £60m (which he would be aware of from the tapping up meeting) which is perfectly reasonable, he's told he can't get the move he wants and has agreed to just because Southampton want to play childish games.

 

I think its pathetic how desperate the fans of a once great club are hanging their hopes on signing just one player as if that is suddenly going to turn them into worldbeaters.

as it should have been done the normal way i.e. get intermediate to check with players agent that he fancies a move to the buying club then stick in a bid & see what happens.
Honestly think this whole saga is doing either club any good at all .
Mind you even if we had done it properly ,as we bloody well should have , you lot would have still gone mad due to it being us

Not sure how refusing to sell a player under contract is childish. In that case, most clubs have been childish at one time or another....including Liverpool refusing to sell Coutinho (for now).

 

According to the paper and fan talk, there's a chance Southampton would sell at a significantly lower price to Chelsea. That would be childish.

Liverpool have refused to sell Coutinho partly because it's too late to replace. Van Dijk asked Southampton to organise his exit the first day of the window, if not earlier.

 

The part where Southampton ran to the FA like a child because we wanted to pay £60m+ but you were hoping a bidding war would get you some more.

 

IF that is the case, then that is the clubs perogative, maybe they are thinking of the fan's reaction if they sold to a club they previously reported to the FA for tapping up.

 

Maybe they should have thought about that before reporting LFC to the FA then

Yeah but this was a respectable offer of a world record fee tapping up, not a disrespectful Man Utd style underpaying tapping up

 

Stop letting Van Dijk suffer, let him join Chelsea or Liverpool.

 

Neither have bid for him.
