The Virgil Van Dijk Stays at Southampton Thread

Saints have stood up to players for another season (Wanyama, Mane, Schneiderlin) and capitulated with others....but this was usually because contracts were short and it made financial sense. We then went for long contracts to stop this happening or at least to gain some power in negotiations. Liverpool went too far....perhaps encouraged by previous transfers. Everyone has a sticking point....I'm sure everyone of us has. We've reached ours...never say never...but I can't see him going to Liverpool. What I can see is him sitting out until January, then going elsewhere.

 

Saints know they f they publicly block him from leaving, we won't be signing many promising European players in the future. And definitely not on long contracts.


But for now they're not stopping him, Liverpool just haven't actually bid for him

 

Be quite funny for us to sell Liverpool some fat knacker who's sat on the sofa for two years eating pizza and smoking ***s for £70m in 2019.

Don't know if I can rely on this source of info........The information he had was that Chelsea had not met the valuation. That came from an earlier discussion apparently before the **** hit the fan. He then said he wasn't aware Chelsea had put in another serious bid and he was doubtful they had. He apparently knows a couple of the current first team very well as well as one of the directors....so he said!!

 

I think Saints always planned to keep him, so no team could reach the evaluation. Virgil being difficult after coming back from a long injury probably caught everyone out...though not coming to the end of season prize giving was a clue. Who believed that 'going to see a doctor' excuse....you can't tell me that private appointments with doctors can't be rearranged.

 

A simple fact which some of their fans have incredible difficulty understanding.

'Pool buggered this up by making a totally needless illegal approach through stupidity and/or arrogance.

What if Southampton offered the fans to take a £20m hit on his sale price to avoid selling to Liverpool but they would make that up by increased ticket prices?

An extra £20 per game for 2 seasons would cover it.

 

Selling to Chelsea won't help that image much either. It says to players Southampton will ignore their own wishes and play games with their career just to save face for their sporting director.

Southampton's best hope is to sell to Liverpool and then say to new players they were just trying to get the most money all along and didn't really want to stand in his way.

Me neither. Went to walking football last night, I know it's sad, wearing my Saints top. Got lots of abuse about Saints losing to a side that the Boro beat. We lost 5-1. Wrong top on obviously. Came back from injury too soon. Yes you can get injured in walking football, just more slowly. Sad man walking.

 

I think walking football is a marvellous idea....MLT perfected it.

 

How can we sell to a club that hasn't even put in a bid yet? On top of that said club has wined and dined him in the Las Vegas of the North under the pretence that they wanted to sign him. If Liverpool want him that much put in a ****ing bid!!
