That's what people were saying before the last summer and January transfer windows shut. Club do not seem to be learning from there mistakes. Believe me Bednarek is no upgrade on Gardos at the moment, I know he's young and probably will improve, but LR said they would look at 1 or 2 this summer who would improve on the starting 11. It shows how short we are when we sign the young lad and he plays the whole 90 minutes in the penaltament pre season game?
I agree it has been an uninspiring transfer window - but maybe we gave him 90 minutes to give him a run out with no risk? Pre-season is all about that really?
That's really harsh on Gazza - he had quality distribution and real potential in most other aspects of his game. He was very young, more so for a GK, when we threw him in the deep end & the crowd got on his back far too quick here. He had to leave us as eventually every first team game they were against him before he touched a ball, but IMO he was improving and could yet turn out to be a very able keeper.
Agreed summer last year was a poor window, but no need to complain with a month still to go in this one. The extortionate fees could mean clubs are asking too much for our targets which could be delaying things. No one knows what the situation is for the lack of signings so far. Also, why do the club need to be learning from mistakes? I think fans are too negative about many of our signings/windows. We finished 8th and got to a cup final under a manager who played a poor style and the players seemed to not like last season - squad can't be that bad!
You can argue that everyone who started that match bar Romeu was a second choice or late back from holiday. For my mind he played 90 minutes because he's the one player he's sure won't be getting much gametime. It showed we need backup for Romeu for me.
It has been an uninspiring 2nd half of last season followed by an uninspiring summer. The fans need a pick me up, something to get excited about.
Les's plan is not to do anything just to excite the fans. So far, so good I think every team needs new players just to stir things up....we certainly do after last season....which was not bad on paper, but was pretty bad on the pitch. I am concerned that nothing is progressing beyond a 'Saints reportedly interested' stage. It seems we have scouted lots of players, but have put no serious offers in....not helped I suspect by the volatile nature of the present transfer market. The team and the fans need a lift....the only problem is that a player who is a lift probably costs £40 million these days.
There are some good deals to be had. Thought Chalobah for £7 million was great business and even Ake to Bournemouth for £20 million was fairly good business in today's market.
Pinch of Salt and all that jazz... Dazza82 please log in to view this image Been told of 2 incomings 1 is really close the other I find hard to believe seeing as he has been linked to aswell. The one that is close is Danny Ings. The other one which I find hard to believe, but my source has been very good, is in the last year of his contract and won't be involved in his 1st team affairs where he is at the minute. He is an attacking mid aswell. Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
