Their player and perfectly entitled to that stance of wanting all the fee paid in full.

I do hope though that other clubs around the world when dealing with Barca share same stance of demanding full fee and not installments when barca come sniffing for players.

Or from their point of view, if keeping him means they qualify for the CL again, that will offset the 30m euros they will lose out in the reduction of the transfer fee.

It's what Arsenal are doing with Sanchez (for now lol)

All depends on Coutinho imo. If he wants to go then we won't have much choice. He won't be like Suarez and knuckle down, he'll be a sulky prick imo

Disagree. Cout is a solid pro and has never caused a fuss. He seems to want a nice quiet life, sensible head, married early to childhood sweetheart. Pretty much think it'll be a case of him saying if you accept the offer I'll go but if not then I'll stay. He won't want to cause a fuss.

Think you've got them the wrong way round. Had it been Barca and not Arse that had offered the +£1 bid then he'd have sulked or forced his way out like he did in Holland. Also get the impression the bite at the WC was a way of lowering his price for Barca, the 'damaged goods' philosophy.
He knuckled down because the contract he signed almost promised him that if someone like Barca or Real came calling he could go, so he had to prove himself to them.

Couts on the other hand, rarely says anything or does anything off the pitch that could be considered damaging.

Coutinho is on the same odds for staying here and going to Barca. VvD still odds on to come to us.

50% chance of leaving is rather high. Given that Klopp has said he is definitely NOT moving.

As Saint said earlier, huge amounts of money are just being moved around by the big clubs. The only people benefitting in the end are the players, the agents and the smaller clubs. This is a time when identifiaction of good (unknown!) prospects could make fortunes for clubs.

Odds only reflect the opinion of those willing to put money on it. There's quite a split on here so I'm not surprised that it's reflected in the betting world.

I'll just re-post what I put on the pre-season thread:

But here's the point - it's Barca: the same Barca that ****ed us right up the ****ter over Luis (and masch too, for that matter). They made it seem like they were doing us a favour three years ago, then immediately crowed to the press about how they only actually paid £65m and forced us to pay the agent's fee. And now they're wittering about how much respect they have for us (despite 'agreeing' a contract with Ford behind our back), and how they fear they'll be 'priced out' of a deal, even getting their poodles at Sky, via the Catalan press, to warn Ford that it's this year or never in a calculated effort to get him to strike.

Well, at the risk of Soton fans getting hysterical at the admitted hypocrisy, it's payback time. The wheel has turned - we don't need the money, and we don't have to sell. We most certainly owe them no favours, and although every pound over £100m will be clawed back by whatever next club we have to buy an eventual replacement from (unless we do the Anny Rd tier as I said -why not?) we have a ****ing moral duty to extract every bit of that £198m we can that they got, or are getting, for Neymar. And so what if they walk away? We get to keep a slightly miffed Ford for another year, and sell him to PSG for £90m next summer, at worst.

This isn't about a win-win deal at all. We win no matter we do (unless we get silly and give in to Barca and their media hirelings): it's just a matter of how much we want Barca to lose by. £135m seems like a good starting point for me, and then we can release a statement saying how much we 'respect' them.

Come on FSG - I really, really want us rub their ****ing noses in it. You know **** all about football and probably never will, but you did come here with the supposed reputation of being American businessmen: FFS, there is no need to sell for £89m or even £100m. Make them suffer - and make Ford put a TR in too, for that matter. They have £198m in their pockets - **** this deal up and we may as well have Hicks and Gillett back.

So what? It's WC season: he'll have to perform sooner or later. We managed okay without him for most of last night when he was supposed to be on the pitch.
