That was my point. If it were a club like Arsenal, who were fighting to get back in to the top 4, then a purchase like this (Provided they could afford it) would make sense as they, presumably, want to get back into the CL and challenge for the title. For Real Madrid it makes no sense.
However, they have been helped by your club and others in providing them with the necessary funds - The money they got from only 2 of their subs (Morata and Danilo) and loan for Rodriguez was probably enough for them to launch that bid.
Just because they have the money, doesnt mean they should spank it all on one 18 year old though does it? I know money burns a hole in madrids pocket, but it doesnt mean they HAVE to spend it on the flavour of the month kid everyone is overrating.
I wonder what Mancini's team would have looked like about now if they'd kept him on and given him the £500m that Pellegrini and Fraudiola have spent.
Par for the course. We ended up with United first choice target and they ended up with, at least Roman's, if not Conte's first choice target. So of course Chelsea fans must label Lukaku a donkey with a ****ty first touch (though in fairness most of the Chelsea fans on here were saying that when he was a shoe-in to be re signed by us as well). And United fans must dismiss Morata as a PL unproven sub who has never been able to get in to a first team Its to be expected

I think they're looking for the next big star once Messi and Ronaldo's stars start to wane (and personally I think Messi will continue at that top level longer than Ronaldo as his game is less based on physicality). Barca have Neymar who is younger than them (assuming he doesn't go to PSG), however I would assume Bale and Ronaldo will start declining in a couple of years time (although they'll still be very good, but not at their best). So I think Real have identified Mbappe as the next big thing and felt they needed to do whatever was necessary to make sure he comes to them rather than Barca, beds in for a year or two while learning from the best all-round goalscorer (Ronaldo), and then be ready to carry the mantle after that. In that light 160m is still crazy money but might be worth it in the long run in their eyes...
Yup, Seems Madrid have learned nothing from their Galacticos period. Signing names , because they are names, is not the best policy when it comes to running a football club. The way their presidents are elected too, by promising he will sign this one and that one, and they never keep their promises. Stupid!
I dunno - the Galacticos policy has been pretty successful the second time around. I think they've learned well from the failures of the first time when they ditched Makalele for Beckham. Three CL titles in four years can't be ignored, particularly when you consider how much clubs like City have spent over the same period to end up with nowt in Europe.
