He wouldn't. "But the rest of the article rings very, very true." Indeed, this is what Powerspurs (I mean Comolli) has been saying here for ages.
A while ago it was suggested I was a close relative of Levy. I'm not sure I think Comolli is a promotion...
We used to have a friend of Levy on here. Showed pics of himself with Levy. Big, older guy. Anyone remember his name?
I do wish we kept our mouths shut about other plsyers and clubs. Watch him rip us apart in the irst wembley match leaving pochettino with egg on his face
Pochettino has said nothing bad about Morata. Morata similarly comes out very well (questioning what use he would be in a team that may have a fully-fit Kane as main striker all season) .
I don't mind as long as it isn't a comment that will stir trouble. By contrast, Antonio Conte has kindly provided Poch with enough material to just place a recording device and a decent speaker in the changing room before the first dozen games of the season and press play. When I first read the article, I must have missed the detail that we approached Morata 2 years ago. Not surprising really as Soldado was on his way out, Kane was on his way up and we were in urgent need of a back up striker. What frustrates me is that this whole story clearly highlights just how stubborn we are in the market. Morata was our target, Morata said no, we then had zero targets...and played the entire season with a solitary striker. What's so frustrating is that had we moved for a player of similar quality to Morata as a second choice, I have no doubt that we would've had the firepower to turn all those annoying 1-1's into 2-1's and would've pipped leicester to the title. I can see exactly the same thing happening this summer.
I do not think saying we have had tbe best of Walker or that Morata did not want to try and displace kane is very helpful to be honest...it simply fires those players up when they play us.
You cannot infer that at all. 1. You look at the past two Spurs seasons, and the opportunities to get your chance in place of Kane have been few and far between. Morata has already had that at get Real Madrid, and on far better wages + chances of getting serious silverware even as a bit-part player. His stint at Juventus shows he is class, and should/would be the main main at all but a very few clubs. 2. I wonder if Morata was given assurances that Costa is no longer the main man at Chelsky, whether they can offload him this summer or not.
Read the whole post SD. We tried to sign Morata 2 years ago. Had we succeeded, or at least signed a striker of equivalent quality, there is no question in my mind that we would've beaten Leicester to it.
I did and understood your point. I was just having a little fun at your comment that the exact same thing will happen this summer. The exact same thing will be Leicester pipping us to the title.
Morata comments aren't a big deal as they refer to a conversation 2 years ago and the player has (at least in his own mind) improved since then. So has Kane mind you so you never know - if Morata is that rare breed of intellectually honest footballer he probably still sees himself as inferior to Kane. As for the Walker comments; agreed - really stupid and likely to inspire him to hit new levels.
Reading Poch's comments about Walker, I think the point he was trying to make is that we have to buy players with potential, City buy them at their peak. Walker is at his peak, but could stay there for a few years imo. We don't operate in that market.
I clearly wrote that as a new paragraph but I get you now. I am worried that our transfer activity will mirror that of 2 seasons ago where certain key positions won't be strenghtened because we can't get our number 1 choice in.
The interview pochettino gave led to a headline of "Morata feared taking on Kane" in the Mirror. I know headlines are bollocks but if we do not say anything about it there are no such headlines. As for Kyle Walker I think it is insane to say "we have seen the best of him" as quoted in the Mirror. I like Pochettino but like I said ... I wish we did not mention other players or clubs as it can and often does inspire them to try harder to prove the comments wrong.
It's obviously really hard to grasp the tone of written comments, but most of what Poch said seemed to stem from real frustration at our lack of activity. It was the first time in a long time (perhaps forever) that he has made the buying=strengthening link when comparing us to our immediate rivals. He isn't going to go full-Maureen and start openly moping about all the toys he was promised but isn't getting, but at the same time this is a close to a guantlet for Levy as we're likely to see.
I agree. It also made me extremely suspicious of Walker though, echoing something that I said a while ago. City keep getting caught tapping players up and halfway through the season he starts talking about moving up north? Suddenly needs a new direction and feels a need to leave, when we're doing better than we ever have during his time here. It's nothing concrete, of course, but I think City did their usual.
