This. Just forget about him and see if he wants to play football again in a couple of years.

I'd imagine that the buying club ends up paying it a lot of the time aswell

If handing in an official transfer request would 100% mean you get a transfer, but lose out on loyalty bonus, then why don't players just negotiate with the club that are buying them to pay them it? In cases like this one I'm sure Liverpool would be happy to pay VVD the loyalty bonus to get the transfer over the line.

I know it is a different situation but leaving him on the sidelines worked with Jason Puncheon. He finally saw sense and came back with his misdemeanours forgiven.

A transfer request can be turned down....though Saints might accept it as a way of saving face and dosh.

Exactly, it can be turned down. A lot of people are saying "what a dick he hasn't handed in a transfer request". I'm sure if by handing in a transfer request he would've got his move he would've done it by now. The loyalty bonus doesn't come into it in my view because Liverpool would've paid him it if meant the transfer happened.

Van Dijks only move now is to say he will never play for Saints again, transfer window open or closed. Then it is a case of see who blinks first

If he said that, he would be in breach of contract and we could stop paying him and still hold onto his registration....but no one wants to go down that route. If he had handed in a transfer request, I'm sure we would have heard of it by now. I expect him to do so in a week or two and then the squealing will start. At the moment his position is that his head isn't in the right place....equivalent to claiming to be sick.

So we don't receive 25% of all transfer fees?

Not sure of details, but some of the VAT can be reclaimed. As a business, it is never a straight % of total.

I don't often post but my understanding with professional footballers was this ...

    - They are contracted (paid) to train and be available for selection (much like we might get paid to be in an office during certain hours say)
    - First team selection and matches are arguably a bonus (hence all the appearance fee nonsense they get)
    - An employer must allow them to go about their daily work (let VvD train, use the facilities etc.) and not hinder them (i.e. - 'stay away from the club!')

As we know, VvD didn't strike, MP asked him to train back at Staplewood while the squad were in France. VvD is playing it well so that the club can't withhold any pay but Saints are also holding to their end of the bargain by allowing him to continue to utilise all the club's facilities. Legally, both sides appear to be playing it above board and neither are slagging the other off in public.

If we don't sell him, then I think VvD can effectively continue to train but ask not to be selected for matches. It would be up to him to decide whether that would affect his career and MP to decide whether if he declared himself available that he would play in a professional way for Saints again.

I believe that Les will only sell to Liverpool if he puts in a transfer request. I think he's digging his heels in this time. Without the transfer request I can only see him staying, unless another club come in. Even then, VvD might reject a Chelsea, Man City or whatever (although I doubt it).

I hope we can sell him to someone else personally. This has all gone too far.

To avoid legal problems I doubt he would say it quite as direct like that. Probably more along the lines of:

"My body and soul are as one with Klopp, he makes me whole, without him by my side by heart bleeds and my soul will withers until I am nothing but a husk, a fragment of the man who I used to be. A shadow without strength, simply drifting over the fields of St Mary's. And thus i shall remain until we are rejoined and made whole once more. So you'd better ****ing sell me, alright? "

    Or something like that.

Are we all congratulating Les now after years of fans complaining we're "not tough enough".

Seems quite a few people are beginning to understand quite how difficult a situation it is, which is probably a good thing. Interesting to note (not so much on here) how many are buckling and saying "just sell him" though.

My sister reckons we should bill him for the medical treatment he has received since the Vardy incident?

Doubt we would do that but this is a good point. He got him back from injury and went the extra mile to get him fit, yet he spits back in our faces.

:) This is kinda like sick leave for any normal person. Many years ago I had a kidney op and was off work for 5 weeks (full pay). A month after returning, I was offered a much better job on loads more money and took it. VvD's situation is arguably not too different.

Perhaps contracts could included stipulations about staying with a club for 'x' months post-injury? A little like with maternity leave whereby companies state you have to come back for a certain time afterwards else you have to pay back all the maternity pay!
