After today's display Maynard must soon be on his way? I hear all sorts of interest for him, QPR and Southampton just as two examples. The situation reminds me of when David Cotteral (spelling?) left after doing well on sky in 2006. The plus side for us is a bidding war will drive the mans price up. Your thoughts? If we're selling him it better be now, more time to bring in reinforcements.
Well if the Newcastle story is true, this might tip a few other prem clubs into the ring - I thought Villa were supposed to be interested...? Reinforcements...? We've got enough strikers to put out a team on their own...!!! I still believe that Brett was bought as the long term replacement for Nicky - build round him and he get us 20-30 goals a season...
I've been saying for weeks that I think we should sell. He's clearly not going to sign and I don't think we'll trouble the play offs even with him in the team, I'd love to be wrong but those are my feelings. I don't think we'll go down without him so we should cash in now, bank the money, get rid of the deadwood who are mostly out of contract at the end of this season and move forward from there.
17 Aug 2011 23:29:02 Nicky Maynard on his way to Bristol Rovers, mate of mine claims he saw him in Bristol yesterday and apparently he owns a house in the city? Coincidence? I think not who did it
good news is svens given up on nicky so he aint going to them if a prem club does come in for him then he desreves it
Maybe his price went up after last night!! After the Ipswich game there were people on Radio Bristol slagging Maynard off - one said he wasn't trying. Well 3 goals in 2 games is the best way to reply to those people - some also need to remember that if a player is not playing well, it does not mean he's not trying!! Come on Nicky - sign that contract with a Premiership buy out clause!!!
I noticed after he scored his first goal last night his immediate reaction was to run to the fans with Marv and then it was almost as if he pulled up and thought no, **** them! that's how I read his body language, if I read it right that is pretty ironic cos the fans that travelled up there are the ones who would support him whatever!
Good, I hope I have Doyler, he has taken some severe criticism lately and I wouldn't blame him if he had the hump.
I still think that we should give him a deadline to sign (next week), then if he rejects quickly offer him to Leicester for £6M and get him out as soon as possible. Given his current form I'd say that if he left now he'd be a mug. It's early days but he's already joint top scorer and as part of a team like this he has the opportunity to once again top the goalscorer charts and get some real interest next year. If he does end up top scorer, despite signing a new contract, he could go for upwards of £10M to a large club.
It will depend on the money being offered but more importantly the level of the team he's potentially going to. He obviously wants to play in the Prem and rightly so and therefore he would be mad gambling on a Leicester or a Southampton if there is a Newcastle, Wolves or other slightly less high profile but established Premiership side waiting to sign him.
