Up until Ajax I thought he was, after Bowen, our best 'youngster' out there. He did really well in pre-season. He isn't going to be up against Klaas-Jan Huntelaar every week, he'll be fine.
It would be a better fit with the players we have. It's not ideal but Sam could cover left wing-back and we have 3 senior centre backs. Plus by all accounts Aina keeps getting caught out going forwards so 3 defenders covering could be helpful.
It will almost certainly be 4-2-3-1. 3-5-2 is **** and I'm glad to see the back of it, it suited the players we had on paper but boy did they not know how to play it.
The first XI at today's training were Greegsy Anna Dawson Mazuch Clarke Bowen Meyler Clucas Grosicki Henriksen Campbell Hector did a bit of fitness stuff on his own for a while, Hernandez was kitted out but took no part and Dio was in civvies although he said he'd be ok for Saturday. No Mason - I don't think he's any where the contact stage yet. Stewart was there but I cant remember what he did.
Yeah I completely agree, but we haven't got a left back and we've got 3 senior centre backs. Seems ludicrous to have someone - probably a young inexperienced player to boot - massively out of position while we have an experienced senior player on the bench.
Can't imagine Meyler will start ahead of Stewart after only just being declared fit. It's only Tuesday, if you can go there on Thursday then that'll be the team. No Lenihan?
Im sure Slutsky wouldn't reveal his starting line up in such a public fashion. Lenihan played RB but for the second XI
Dare I ask why it matters if there's any concrete rumours and how that links to us being active? Zeegelaar has been linked again according to the Portugese press. Darnbrough's tried to get him before
Because that means there could be some evidence to at least doing something. If not, we'll just assume the truth, which is they're doing **** all.
How is it evidence if some of them are clearly made up? I could tell you now that we're looking at a LB from Israel. You probably wouldn't believe it, but if I then tweeted it to a journalist who works for a national newspaper and he prints it/puts it online, you'd probably be less worried about our recruitment. It doesn't mean it's true. People publish rumours based on what they've heard, they have absolutely nothing to lose by getting it wrong because it's just a stab in the dark based on something they've been told. Of course we're doing business, just because we aren't doing it out in the open does not mean we are doing nothing. How many times in the past have we been pipped to the post by other clubs? By keeping it behind closed doors, it gives us an advantage, albeit a small one given the influence of agents. Campbell came out of nowhere, probably because we knew he would be in demand and other clubs might try gazumping us if they knew we'd offered a contract. If you think we're doing nothing based on anything other than a lack of stories from our lying, idiotic national press (what a cracking, universal track record they have, by the way) then rather you than me every transfer window.
Key word. He's tried and failed quite a few times. That's why he was sacked from his two previous positions. Only an idiot would think everything is 'fine'.
So he's been sacked for failing to bring in Marvin Zeegelaar? I never said everything is fine but just because we aren't hearing things it doesn't mean nothing is happening. Of our signings this year, how many did we hear about from reliable sources until they were pretty much done?
Nearly every single manager will focus his team from Thursday onwards, whether the sessions are private or not.
