So VVD is allegedly still not training with the rest of the squad. This is not necessarily anything new. The Telegraph article said 'Southampton hope to reintegrate Virgil van Dijk into first-team training next week, with new manager Mauricio Pellegrino preparing to again tell his captain that he will not be sold this summer.' So this is how it goes:

MP: "Sorry Virgil we're still not selling you."
VVD: (sticks lip out) "Ahh but.." (stamps foot)
MP: "Virgil you have a contract and that's it "
VVD: "I don't wanna play" (starts to bawl)
MP: "I think you'd better go back to training with the U9's for a bit longer"

The week is not out yet, he may still come to his senses. If not, he's going to get bored eventually.

 

To me there are 3 scenarios where VVD goes to Liverpool based on the info coming out in both the Saints driven and Liverpool driven media

1) Saints actively encourage Liverpool to make a bid
2) VVD hands in an official transfer request
3) Another team bids for VVD and Saints accept and Liverpool match their bid

Long time lurker, so thought I'd join in the fun (took a while!)

Thoughts on whether VVD stays are now very much 'meh' as we've all been here before (many times).

But, maybe he's not been training today as he's behind the group and constitutes a risk if he joins in, as I imagine he'll be off the pace just kicking a ball against a wall for a week!

We have two matches this week....if he trained, he might get a few minutes game time, but he can't expect to walk into the side when everyone else has been working hard and learning what the manager wants. Let him stew.
