Decent person to share a birthday with @Roo ... ...my first league game at WHL. I had just turned 7 and was sat right behind the goal. Ball went up in the air over Klinsmann's head and the bloke in front of me jumped out of his seat so I didn't see the goal. Next thing I knew the ball was in the back of the net. I thought Jurgen had headed it in!
Told you this before here. Talking Hack-ese ensures you do not say anything that can be possibly be contradicted by future events/facts. In this case, the "stand-off" could have existed for a couple of seconds before the contract was signed, and they would still be correct.
According to Sky, Poch admits we're a bit behind in our preseason and in the transfer market. Perhaps my post belongs in the no **** Sherlock thread but as the only PL team yet to sign a single player, this constant heel dragging every year is getting tedious. It's clearly not Poch and comes from the top. If we put in another season like last, it's feasible to argue our chairman is costing us points and potential silverware
If this is true then why is it 30th July and we haven't still signed one single player? Don't want to keep on making the same point but this is getting silly now.
If we're not going to sign anyone then the least Levy can do is sort out Toby's contract ASAP. To lose him would be a massive loss
We're being linked with Serge Aurier again. No thanks. Ivory Coast's answer to Mario Balotelli. Complete nutjob with a massive attitude problem. Similar style and price to Ricardo Pereira though, so can we please reopen that particular can of worms?
Tutto Mercato are linking us with Torino defender Antonio Barreca. A left back. Who signed a five-year contract extension last November. Coincidentally he's on the radar of Monaco and Roma. Can't think of any reason this sounds far-fetched...
Maybe I'm missing the finer details about this bloke but I would love Renato Sanches at Spurs. He wants to move or has he already gone to Milan? All I know is, he's up for grabs and whenever I see him play, he is electric. Apparently he's just unhappy at Bayern, lack of game time for someone who played more minutes than any other Portugese player in 2015 has led to his decline and lacklustre contribution to Bayern over the last season.
Wouldn't say no. Looked mature beyond his years playing for Portugal at the Euros. Fee and wages will, as usual, be a major problem.
I believe he has that alleged 2019 release clause thing, and is prepared to bide his time on his current wages without signing a new contract (this season will pass quickly enough) .
Toby's release clause supposedly says: If Spurs trigger a one year extension to the contract at any point between now and the summer of 2019, he would be contracted until 2020 but could leave for £25m. Toby apparently wants to keep this release clause as an integral part of any new deal, but the club - understandably give that he is worth at least double that amount - are reluctant to agree. The whole thing sounds as much like Levy as I sound like a West ham supporter. However, there is a possibility that the player insisted on an easy escape route when he joined as he saw us, and probably still sees us, as a stepping stone to one of the giants. If true, I would personally trigger the clause and tie him down for another 3 seasons. Having him for an extra year is well worth any money we'd lose out on as a result of him leaving for £25m or even for free. He is for all intents and purposes, irreplacable.
I suspect that he asking for a serious wage increase to do that (which is why nothing is happening) .
Why would you trigger it now? I'd leave it until it's virtually run out and then do it. That's assuming that he won't sign a new one without release clauses, which would be infinitely preferable, of course.
Wages wouldn't necessarily be an issue, given he's on about £28k p/w at Bayern - unless he brings a calculator to negotiations, multiplies that by four, and won't budge from that result...
