Well i suppose if Forster wants out for 1st team football and Harper is in his twighlight years then it'd be good to get someone with quality in

The reaction to this both on here and on Twitter makes me genuinely ashamed to be a Newcastle fan. The loss of Forster and the arrival of a quality upcoming player improves our squad. It may not be the striker or left back that we need but to be fair the two things aren't mutually exclusive, you can sign a keeper from the UK whilst still pursuing key targets elsewhere.

To the casual observer we must look like a bunch of clueless neaderthals. "oh we signed a player! Let's form an angry mob! Boo! Boo!"

Fair enough, but even if we don't sign him, remember his name because the guy's class was easy to see. He will end up in the Premiership. I said this to my son at the game and I stand by that.

I hope to God you're right!
Just pissed off at the ever-realistic possibility that we won't get a LB or Striker in before Saturday.

Feel sorry for Harper. Such a loyal man , awaited his chance patiently and never complained. Being treated like **** by Pardew and Cashley and it that doesn't go well with me.

Anyone notice how the club have sold (or will sell , perhaps in Harper's case) all the players who had a strong position in the dressing room and who spoke out against Ashley? The players whose team spirit kept us up last season.

Think about it : Nolan , Carroll , Jose , Harper , Smith (on his way , too **** anyways)...

    Worrying.

MA to DL. "I hear we need a striker and a LB DL, who do you think we should get"?

DL, " Mmmmm, not sure Mike, oh wait, I Know, lets get another keeper, you can never have too many of them"!

Oh aye yes, I worded it a bit daft I suppose, <laugh> Just going with the general consensus of "I'm gonna throw a paddy if we don't get a LB before Saturday"... haha. If we get a LB, then I'm all gravy man.

Two points, one we've just off loaded a keeper, it wasn't Harper. Two Harper is pretty average: always stuck to his line, concedes easily at his near post, has pitiful and negative distribution. For me, his loyalty is admirable, his ability is questionable.

surely any signing better than none shame its a keeper and not a striker or left back. can only think that foster won't be coming back so he'll be backup until harper retires in a year or two. but as the other fella correctly points out they can work on several transfers at a time

Kind of the same like selling him. Will never be in the dressing room or in the squad.

Steve Harper was originally a striker before he went into the goalkeeping business.

    Two birds one stone...

Elliot may be third choice? Harper is currently injured also. Forster has been replaced and whether he's third or second choice Harper will be big part of the squad, he's not the future of the club though in respect to him, hopefully he will stick around in some capacity for as long as possible because he has a lot to offer. Sadly I don't see much of a place for him in our team, this does seem like a footballing decision, for now and the future, eg when Harper retires or when Harper or Krul gets injured/suspended

Been confirmed that Harper is not injured and journo's on twitter saying they want to seal the deal in time for him to be on the bench against sunderland.
