    Is not using straw to describe a colour, as in "the walls were straw coloured" using straw as an adjective?

    No, still doesn't work as an adjective must describe a noun and straw is still a thing, not a colour i.e. they are the colour of straw

    Well I do have an O level in English Lit which for the benefit anyone under 50 is roughly the equivalent of a degree in modern parlance
