This year, you were nowhere near and when the gap got smaller you flopped at West Ham.

I'm not talking about showing good form, I'm talking about winning when it absolutely matters, and you don't, otherwise you'd have a PL trophy.

 

I agree the best teams win when it matters, but we have not done that because we are not yet the best team. It's not something in our DNA, we are doing better than we ought to.

That's all I was saying, you lack a mentality to get that last bit done. I'm not saying you need a new team or your entire team are incapable, I just think a couple of players who maybe know how to win etc, could close that gap.

I was saying it is nothing to do with mentality, we've just not been quite good enough. But we are young and will get better (and possibly mentally tougher too) and it is not easy to find a couple of players who will short circuit that. We didn't lose to Chelsea in the cup semi because we bottled it, we lost because they were better than us and played to their capability on the day. If they had played like they did in the final we would have murdered them.

 

We can laugh about it now.

Well I agree that you bottled it, that's the mentality I'm talking about. That's the reason you're not good enough imo.

 

They need to win that first trophy to get that winning mentality, even if its a league or FA cup.
Most teams win a cup before going on to league success.
Chelsea won the league cup before our first PL title.
City won the FA cup before their first PL title.

 

The fact is they had a perfect opportunity to seize a relatively easy PL title, when the top teams were off their game and they were still pipped to the title by Leicester.

Carrying that burden on your back that you crumble every time the heat gets turned up, well it only gets heavier.
