The scoreline definitely doesn't reflect the game at all. We've played pretty well and I'd say that actually we've been the better side. Our one problem seems to be that we give the ball away too much, hopefully that'll come with experience.
Disagree mate - the scoreline is fair. First half - we were poor. Gave away possession far too often and Sporting dominated the game. They were brilliant.
Well i agree anyway! Suso is classy, but clearly at the moment he's something of a luxury player. He needs to round his game before he's the Xavi of the premier league.
First half we were pretty good! So many attacks that got to the box but didn't turn into anything. They in no way dominated the game! At points it was rare they got the ball.
Yeah, as the commentator said he's being played too far back to what he's used to so he's not getting used fully.
Anyone know when the return leg of this match is? Cos i am moving to Lisbon in 2 weeks and was thinking i might catch it.
We look like we're playing an older team. Lots of talent and promise, but lacking composure all around the pitch. Don't know about average ages or anything but mentally they seem a year or two ahead. Just hit the post mind. So much talent in our team, just need to switch on a bit!
Yeah definitely. Also, Sterling really reminds me of Cristiano Ronaldo. That may sound strange and i don't mean in looks or even playing style, but in the confidence they have when they get the ball and the fact that even the most basic things are full of skill and start an attacking movement, and no matter who's on the pitch with them they look older and more confident than anyone out there. It's as if every time the opposition stops him it's a big victory for them.
I think thats the way they are brought up in Europe to keep the ball from a very young age, where as in England a lot of our football is about pace & power. I think it's great that our youngsters get to play these teams from a young age and can hopefully learn about the ways of keeping the ball
Why are people leaving with 5 minutes to go? It's not like there will be 40,000 people pouring out at the end?
for those not watching Raheem Sterling just beat about 4 men in all sorts of ways- including flicking it past a tackle, going back on himself then turning, and finally just knocking it past the full back and burning him for pace, to the point that the full back unashamedly rugby tackled him to the floor with both arms. Incredible. David Fairclough has given him as our man of the match.
