Didn't think the thread was about the "best" player? Most influential was the original question.

No, the title of the article linked in the OP is:

Premier League at 25: the best player – Eric Cantona

Nothing about influence, though I fail to see how any fan could know what or who Cantona influenced in behind the scenes, other than hear'say.

Yeah the title and the article don't really match. It suggests he is the best due to the influence he had in changing Utd from the nearly men to the dominant force in the PL for many years. I don't think he was the best player but I agree that the influence he had on Man Utd outweighs anything any other single player has had.

Good list and it's all about opinions but the one thing I have to pull you up on is where the **** is Denis Irwin?

Especially as you have included Azpilicuta instead! I'd go as far as to say Evra is ahead of him as well.

Not really, I've seen them all play and I know which is better. Have you?

    No, course you haven't.

Azpil whatsiname is good but out of the 25 years of premier league football is one one of the top three? No, is he ****.

You've got Lee Dixon and Nigel Winterbourne to consider for a start.

    Amongst other things.

Being the best left back the league has seen being the primary one.

Haha.... was a tough one on the FB. Was trying to think of outstanding solid full backs who were also fantastic going forward. Evra was great going forward but sometimes lacked the defensive nous although i guess his speed helped him get out of it. Dave is just super super solid.

Never really saw Irwin or Dixon play too much so haven't really included them.

I just remember him pinging one in the corner against us, other than that I've blocked it all out.

There's no debating the best left back position imo, it's Ashley Cole hands down, he was world class and rarely put a foot wrong on the pitch.

The rest will be personal choices etc... Nobody can mount a case against Ashley Cole.

Same goes for CM, there's Paul Scholes and then there's the rest.
