All the minutes of my life I have left now are a bonus and I can be as extravagant as I like with them. You on the other hand need to be cautious with your use of time. It is statistically proven that the older you are the longer you will live.

Hate to say it but this is the sanest Board around, it doesn't say much about the rest of them though!

Blimey. One busy day and I'm not sure if this is now a beauty pageant, a popularity contest or a queue of paranoid folk waiting outside the psychiatrist office.

At the risk of getting close to the subject of the thread. Does anyone else think release clauses should be mandatory as per some other leagues? Try and avoid these kind of situations or at least reduce them

Nah I'm not a fan, doesn't work in reality anyway as clubs just set them ridiculously high so no one touches them.

Could be worth a try. I'd like us to have a governing body with a big pair of balls that would get used occasionally first though.

Don't get the point of them....supposed to put people off, but look at the prices some teams are willing to pay.

The player would have to agree to the release clause, so I wouldn't say the figures would be huge. Plus a release clause doesn't necessarily mean a player has to go when it's met.
As much as I believe a player should honour contracts they've signed. Circumstances change and this offers a little flexibility

They do though, look Portugal you get average players on ridiculously high release clauses.

I think that Semedo we were linked to had a stupid release clause of 40 odd million. Didn't he go for like 12?

That's all down to the balance of power in the relationship.
If you've got a teenager signing his first contract then he is going to agree to anything in the small print like someone downloading an app.
A club wouldn't want to get caught with their pants down, should the player suddenly turn into the next big thing or the market inflates.

When it comes to signing or renewing contracts with senior players who have a greater idea of their worth then perhaps those release clauses would be a little more attainable,
Length of contract and the market will ultimately dictate most transfers, but these stand offs are not good for the game.

    Not sure it says that.

Says they've been scared off by our determination, to me that says that it will cost more than what they're willing to pay.

Also goes on to say that the TV money making it harder to buy domestically as clubs don't need to sell.

If it means he doesn't end up at Liverpool, sell him to Chelsea now. Even if it means, cash + player/s deal. For me VVD has burnt his britches with saints, and could end up being a huge distraction if he stays!
