Since we haven't been linked with a Croatian for three weeks, The Mirror are linking us with Dinamo Zagreb centre back Filip Benkovic.

While he does seem a good fit, as what I can dig up on him he appears to have been cast from the same mold of Verts and Toby, although the fee would likely be inflated as Dinamo might need a good lawyer if the Zdravko Mamic trial gets messy...

Calciomercato have resuscitated the Kovacic rumour too, so we're clearly heading back to being Croatia Hotpur.

Or, you know, it's a load of old bollocks. One of the two.

Love the interview with Gareth Bale: I don't know where Ronaldo will be next season, you will have to ask him. I didn't even know Lukako had gone to Man United. So great interview

Gareth Bale knows nothing. That's the story! always handy reading the media during transfer windows. To be fair this is probably the most honest report of the whole window. <laugh>

Spurf knows nothing about who Spurs will sign this window, when asked, Daniel Levy was not overly surprised because "I don't know much more than that myself, and I'm paying the bills.

Moussa Dembele from Celtic available for £20million apparently.

We were interested in him before and he's only got better since then.

His wages shouldn't be a problem either.

I'd like to see Spurs go for him.

Unlikely, given that they supposedly slapped a £40m tag on him back in January.

We also need to consider the sad reality that the SPL is now equivalent to League 2 standard at best, so scoring a hatful of goals north of the border means little in PL parlance, even if your manager is Brenda Rodgers.

What was weird about him is that we 'signed' him 2 seasons ago but then seemed unwilling to loan him back to Fulham and the deal collapsed as a result, then he went to Celtic for nought but compensation fees. Bizarre that we didn't snap him up last summer.

Ultimately the lad should've stayed at Craven Cottage if he wanted to develop his career. Sure, he'll get paid nicely and win loads of tins at Celtic, but if and when the day comes for a big PL move, he'll be hopelessly out of his depth.

I'm surprised nobody's thought of speculating about us making a Benkovic + Rebic double signing from Dinamo...
I know you're joking, but Rebic's career really hasn't worked out for him since he was linked with us, has it?
Flopped and loaned out repeatedly, struggling with injuries and suffering with mono. Oops.

I meant Ante Coric, not Ante Rebic...so we'll see if Squawka do some fact-checking before pilfering this one!

<laugh> I thought that you were going by the usual journalistic join the dots bollocks!
Coric is probably tomorrow's story, after they've Googled the club and Spurs together.

Would anyone genuinely be OK with us making no signings?

I am unhappy about no current plan B for Kane or Eriksen.
Rose / Lamela / Son still on physio watch is a big concern.

LB/RB cover is non-existent.
One of Dier/Jan is playing cover FB this season.
If Wimmer is irreparably out of favour now, then even worse.

Quite worried now (and nothing to do with what other clubs are
up to in the transfer market) .

I think Barkley will be brought in as the Eriksen/Alli rotation, but that it won't happen until deadline day. I'm also predicting a fee of no less than £30m while I'm at it.
I agree - as promising as KWP looks, he hasn't a single minute of first team action to his name. The thought of Trippier as first choice RB already makes me uneasy. The thought of Trippier picking up a serious injury and KWP playing there for an extended period of time fills me with utter dread.

Re Wimmer - neither club nor player appear to be in any hurry to sell. He is featuring in our pre season tour and his tweets suggest that he is still quite happy at the club. If he can rediscover his 2015-16 form, I'd much prefer to keep him than risk bringing in someone else.

What worries me more from a defensive perspective is that our current system uses Dier and Wanyama at the same time, which means that we lack proper cover for both of them and both will be run into the ground (again) next season. To my mind, we still need:

RB
CB (right footed)
DM/CM
AM/ST (pacy)

I tend to agree CK.

I'm all for promoting the youth, but to lose Walker and replace with KWP, that doesn't sit well with me right now. I feel he needs a season of cup games and the odd premier league game here and there against weaker opposition first. As promising as he looks, it's also a lot to expect from such a young lad, who would actually end up playing in quite a lot of high profile games if the rotation Walker and Trippier had last season is anything to go by. For me this is a risk, and January will feel like a long way away if this doesn't work.

If Wimmer stays, I think we're ok defensively, just about. It's a fine balance between having enough in depth, and having too many, where unrest forms over lack of game time. I think should any issues arise (god forbid), we should give CCV some game time, and reassess the situation in January.

I've said a few times that an AM player and/or someone with pace (never going to sign both) is a must for us. As RDBD says, there's been a long term injury to Lamela, which is a concern. Dele, Son and Eriksen desperately need another player to not only keep them on their toes, but also take the pressure off if there's any injury issues, or they just need a rest. IMO, this is the one area we should be addressing first. I just hope Barkley (as he's who we apparently want) can do the job required.

The other question mark is Janssen. Whilst I think he works hard and always gives his all, at the end of the day he's a striker. But he's not scoring many goals. Last season we saw Son lead the line and do a much more productive job. We have to face the reality that we may have another Soldado on our hands. But again, it comes down to who we could realistically get and whether we'd bother. Also, January won't be the time for investing in that sort of player as we'll pay an even more daft premium than the ones quoted this summer. Therefore we'd be facing another season of this. It's a difficult situation and we really need him to step up this season.

Very tricky situation right now, with all things considered in the squad depth, and the market we're currently in. If any or some of our key players don't perform as they have for the last couple of seasons, you have to wonder how this will leave us.

If 1 or 2 can raise their games from what we saw last year, they'll feel like new signings. but it's whether they will. Do we feel confident enough to "stick", or do we lean more towards "twist"?
