I tend to agree CK.
I'm all for promoting the youth, but to lose Walker and replace with KWP, that doesn't sit well with me right now. I feel he needs a season of cup games and the odd premier league game here and there against weaker opposition first. As promising as he looks, it's also a lot to expect from such a young lad, who would actually end up playing in quite a lot of high profile games if the rotation Walker and Trippier had last season is anything to go by. For me this is a risk, and January will feel like a long way away if this doesn't work.
If Wimmer stays, I think we're ok defensively, just about. It's a fine balance between having enough in depth, and having too many, where unrest forms over lack of game time. I think should any issues arise (god forbid), we should give CCV some game time, and reassess the situation in January.
I've said a few times that an AM player and/or someone with pace (never going to sign both) is a must for us. As RDBD says, there's been a long term injury to Lamela, which is a concern. Dele, Son and Eriksen desperately need another player to not only keep them on their toes, but also take the pressure off if there's any injury issues, or they just need a rest. IMO, this is the one area we should be addressing first. I just hope Barkley (as he's who we apparently want) can do the job required.
The other question mark is Janssen. Whilst I think he works hard and always gives his all, at the end of the day he's a striker. But he's not scoring many goals. Last season we saw Son lead the line and do a much more productive job. We have to face the reality that we may have another Soldado on our hands. But again, it comes down to who we could realistically get and whether we'd bother. Also, January won't be the time for investing in that sort of player as we'll pay an even more daft premium than the ones quoted this summer. Therefore we'd be facing another season of this. It's a difficult situation and we really need him to step up this season.
Very tricky situation right now, with all things considered in the squad depth, and the market we're currently in. If any or some of our key players don't perform as they have for the last couple of seasons, you have to wonder how this will leave us.
If 1 or 2 can raise their games from what we saw last year, they'll feel like new signings. but it's whether they will. Do we feel confident enough to "stick", or do we lean more towards "twist"?
