I hope Les sticks to his guns and keeps Virgil or, as a second choice, sells him to a foreign team. However, I don't get why some fans think he has to go if he doesn't stand firm...some seem to think that pissing off fans is a reason for getting rid of a company employee who in the end is only part of the board that makes the final decision. Les will only go if the board and owner believe he should...lying to fans (or changing his mind as it is known in the real world) won't be the reason.

A red rag journalist would run the story that he's over there meeting Liverpool's American owners. Surprised they haven't already tbh.

2 posts on a forum is enough for some papers to run a story. Look what you've done now!

I wouldn't say it's a rare viewpoint even if there is a lack of articles supporting it. I'm on the opposing side but still understand it.

We may now have a similar situation with Coutinho and Barcelona, how would us fans react if he says he wants to go? What will the board do? They've already said he's not for sale.

If a player believes he should be allowed to move to a club in order to better his career and become a better player should that be allowed? Yes I think they should but if that's the case then this signing up to massive contracts with huge siging on fees need to stop. Once again it's agents and money causing the problem.

Should you sell us VVD? Yes if he wants the move sell him but he has to hand in the transfer request and do it in the right manner.
Should we sell Coutinho? If he wants it then with a heavy heart yes but again it should be done in the correct manner.

"They also remember how the imperious Dutchman spoke about his "pride" at the "honour" of being given the captain's armband following Jose Fonte's exit to West Ham in January.

Where is Van Dijk's pride now as he trains alone while the rest of his teammates head off on a preseason tour of France? Where was his honour when he held alleged secret meetings with Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp about a move to Anfield? Van Dijk should have been stripped of the armband as soon as those tawdry details began to emerge on newspaper back pages. That he wasn't was down to Southampton's belief he would act like a model professional, accept their decision not to sell and get his head down and prepare for the season in the right manner."

Just a rehash of the reports that Liverpool will not pursue VVD unless invited by Southampton as they do not want to cause a breakdown of the clubs relationship. This is what I have been saying about why Saints didn't pursue the 'prosecution' of Liverpool after the apology....not cowardice, but common sense...teams have to be able to work together. Liverpool may one day have something that we want and we will definitely will have something they want :). Virgil has become something of an obsession with Liverpool fans on social media, but is he really the greatest thing since sliced bread....there are other fish in the sea. And we all know that not all of our players have been the same after leaving the promised land.

That decision was down to Mauricio...if the rat won't play, why should he waste the time of coaching staff in France.

It is incredibly pathetic. The boy needs some perspective. This is not a situation that you need your head sorting out. Try real life problems you colossal twat.

These footballers like Van Diljk (or whatever his name is, can't be bothered to spell it correctly) and countless ones before gun piss me off so much. They have no idea how privileged they are with their salaries which even compared to most other sports are freaking ridiculous. They have no ability to act professionally, there's lots of things I want but I don't throw my toys out the pram and act like a bunch of spoilt brat if I don't get them. Their attitudes shows utter contempt to the fans that pay their salaries.
