Pre season friendlies mean **** all.

Man United smashed all their pre season friendlies in Moyes first season, and finished 7th.
Chelsea lost EVERY SINGLE pre season friendly before the 2009/2010 season, and won the double......

So they mean **** all.
No one is at full match fitness, teams and formations are usually experimental as the manager often opts to try new things, there are usually a few new players who, aswell as having the aforementioned going against them, have never played with these players or under this manager.....they are usually on neutral grounds that the teams arent used to, which means the games can be cagey, and they are played in the summer, often in intense heat.

It's impossible to say really, at least with any certainty.
