What things about football doid you make up/believe/were told as a kid?? Mine The Swiss national team were going to be world beaters by the year 2000 - this came from a friend who told me back when I was about 12/13 (1995) that the swiss under 21 team were the best in the world and that they thrashed their full team Injury time was the time at the end of the half where there were no rules and you could injure other players Offside (confused me for most of my early life) was when the ball went off the side of the pitch In African football leagues if you scored you got booked, if you scored again you'd be sent off... this was to even the playing field - this came from watching football mundial on eurosport when Patrick M'Boma got booked after scoring, I then thought all players in africa got booked after scoring Gabriel Batistuta was going to sign for Man Utd every summer - same friend as the swiss lie told me this EVERY SEASON - It never happened
I believed Everton were better than Liverpool because my Dad and Uncle were both blues and they made me.
My mate told me in my first 11 a side game that you can't go in the D at the edge of the box at all, I played the whole game avoiding the D untill I was taken off.
I can't think of any at the moment but my mate puts a tenner on Switzerland when they play at any major tournament. So my mate also believes that the Swiss are world beaters!
better than my debut, came on 5-0 down and within 2 minutes took a shot the the bollocks which happened to end up in the back of our own net, shocker!
FIFA 07 doesn't count. My debut was 18 years ago, so i can't remember. Two assists my debut high school game, though...
I can only remember because i never scored another hatrick! The manager thought i was better suited to 'super sub'
In early primary school on lunch breaks we collectively misunderstood the purpose of penalties. A foul was a free kick- a penalty was when someone got hurt... if he got hurt bad enough he'd get two penalties.
I played my first competiitive match at 12 years old, my manager put me up front when I told him I liked to play in defence and I didn't do much at all and was largely ineffective, it took him 5 weeks before he caved in and played me at right back where I played some storming football. at 15 our manager changed his tactics and I played as a right wing back in a 5-3-1-1 where I really thrived up until I was 19 then beer and birds started getting in the way (I'd have never ever of "made it". the closest any of my mates came wa my friend Andrew who played semi pro for Tiptree United and Braintree Town (he also had a trial at Chelsea) and I was no-where near his level
When I was 11, I told my mates that I was going to go to the boxing club and learn how to box. "Don't do that!" they told me, "they'll put you in the ring with some bigger, older kid who's had some traing and he'll batter you" But I DIDN'T listen. I went to the boxing club and after some circuit training they put some gloves on me and put me in the ring - with some bigger, older kid who'd had some boxing training. For 2 minutes he battered me. It felt like hours! Then the trainer said "well you kept trying to attack so we can work with that. Come back at 4.30 on Wednesday and we'll start your training" However 4.30 on Wednesday I was playing football for the school - so I never did go back!
Bloody should have gone down in the first 10 seconds - I'd have saved myself a further 1min 50 secs of PAIN!!!
