I'm not about to dismiss Vettel's skills; far from it: For pure speed he's one of the fastest out there. In this regard he reminds me of Kimi Raikkonen, only better! Vettel is more consistent than Raikkonen and far more focussed than the Finn ever was - even at his best.

But it is interesting that this video is just three minutes long…

3 minutes long and around 18 overtakes, several of which were on lapped cars, most on way inferior cars. Some good ones on Alonso and the McLarens, but they were few and far between.

hard to over-take from the front, also as he's possibly one of the fastest in clean air he will qualify ahead of faster cars and behind even faster ones. I would like to see him battle it out with a team-mate like Alonso, Hamilton or Kobayashi, as I consider those 4 to be the best out there

excluding this season he has had 3 1/2 seasons in F1 where he hasn't always been a front runner.

His lower Formula races are more interesting to be fair.

And people say Schumacher and Jenson are harder on Lewis? Bollox looks to me they are willing to trade paint on some of those moves.

Seb at Brazil 09 was class, that was for the title, no ****ing around. They still haven't included the ones he did with Toro Rosso, about another 15 there.

@Bob, none of them are being lapped, maybe on lesser rubber but that's it. I put it to you, how many of Lewis' overtakes that you see slapped all over youtube have been done on lesser cars, or with the assist of KERS or F-Duct, probably 60-70% of them.

Slap a yellow helmet on Seb and paint the car silver and kiddies would be fapping in their pants calling him the next Senna, saying he's the only thing decent on the grid.

All because he's German he must be boring, thats what the TV says...

    Hmm… I beg to differ Silver. :)

If this thread is designed to re-ignite the 'Seb can't overtake' debate, it has well and truly worked!

He is very quick and he is confident when ahead; but on average, he is not as strong in battle as the likes of Hamilton, Button, Alonso, Webber; perhaps Kobayashi and Petrov too. And there are others. He is perhaps marginally better in a fight than Rosberg, but to be honest, that's not saying much. This does not detract from his standing as a World Champion: he is scintillatingly quick when ahead, and is able to work his tyres very well in a car that is built for his driving style. He is also superb over one lap which is vital for qualifying.

Once again this is not a criticism: The whole Red Bull team is focussed on maximising Vettel's potential; any other driver in that team will have to just get on with it.

Fair play to Vettel: he drives to his strengths and not his weaknesses which is very important but when the pressure of battle threatens when performance is similar, I'd put my money on all of the above drivers (other than Rosberg) to beat him in a scrap. Kubiça doesn't count now but he was also stronger in battle.

All drivers end up with reputations, Vettel can't overtake, Hamilton likes to crash, Button is the trye master, Alonso is ...complete. Whilst they all have an element of truth in them they are not always true, nor are they set in stone.

It is up to the drivers in question to prove or disprove their reputations, but to do this they'll have to do more than really needed, to make a point, i.e. Vettel will need to overtake lots to prove he really can overtake.

At the moment Vettel is a regular front runner, and when your at the front its very hard to overtake anyone <laugh>

I'll happily admit that Vettel can overtake people, but not as skillfully as several others. Until he has a worse car he won't be able to prove me wrong, its a twisted fact of life.

    random post over <ok>

And it is amazing how quickly Lewis gets pulled into this... <ok>

I am not going to comment on this because my opinion might shock others.

so has Kobayashi, Alonso, Button, Schumacher and strangely Webber and Petrov (Cosi, what are you smoking?), the only drivers in the top half not mentioned are Heidfeld, Rosberg & Massa.

agree with SA on the German thing, people can deny it, but my Gran, when pushed on her dislike of Vettel finally said "its the finger, and he's German" but she didn't like him before the finger.

hmm, closing in on the 1,000 post mark, a day of research into obscure F1 knowledge approaches.

Edit: lol, didn't see that BLS, Kubica got a mention there too

Really you believe the reason British people don't support Vettel is because he's German and your gran says so, that has got to be one of the most cock eyed ways of looking at things I have ever read.

Different people support different drivers for different reasons, If I say I support Rubens its not because I'm Brazilian (which I'm not) its because I just like his honesty. amongst other things, although for me Rubens isn't my number one driver.

When I see Vettel being interviewed I think what a nice chap, but then I see things like him crashing into webber last year and blaming him for what was blatantly his own fault and T boning Button and not even saying sorry, or getting second in a race and not acknowledging the winner in any way shape or form during the post race press conference like he did in Canada. I tend to go off of the guy.

But mostly it's his ding ding ding **** and that bloody finger, and has nothing to do with his nationality.

Decent video, although the lyrics to the track were god awful. <laugh>

Completely agree with ModestMatt's post. <ok>

mephistopheles: I believe Vettel suffers in the UK from the "Baby Schumi" comparisons that were made early in his career. I'm not saying this is true for all his detractors, but he got off on the wrong foot before he'd even began through things which were out of control, and I think some people are only now beginning to love him or hate him for who he is, whilst others just stubbornly maintain the opinion they formed of him years ago.

I am not one of these fans that think Vettle cant overtake, but this video shows alot of backmarkers being overtaken and also the ones this year are when he is on fresh tyres and others are running longer stints!

What Vettel can do is put in qualifying laps of such quality that he reminds me of another qualifying specialist, though this man had far better racecraft (unmatched racecraft) and a bright yellow helmet. He was brazillian. Can you tell who it is yet?

    Eh? - Does not compute… (scratches head…)

Well I probably left out a few other worthy candidates: Schumacher for one. - But it's been too long since the last Grand Prix and after a long and difficult weekend, I reserve the right to have a lapse of memory! :D
