The only thing that is certain regarding Saints is that none of us mere mortals have a bloody clue about any of our incoming transfers until about five minutes before it's officially announced by the club. Either we've got a very efficient board, or just ****ty ITKs.

VVD also isn't on "strike" going from the comments from Pellegrino. He has said that VVD said that he wants to leave and the club have told him to train alone, it doesn't appear that VVD has refused to play for the club and gone on strike.

 

Can I just edit that a little to say the MANAGER has asked him to train alone until his head is right. NOT a punishment, JUST common sense

At the end of the day this is how football transfers work, you can dislike it but it is the reality. VVD is not the first and won't be the last to act like this. Unfortunately it is part and parcel of the game now so i struggle to get annoyed by it

Yeah, good management, imo.
Making him train alone, and taking him out of the all inclusive team ethic, could give him cause to rethink his decision, or at least make him realise that it's not going to be made easy for him.
Being part of the group, joining in all the fun and hi-jinks that form part of the everyday camaraderie, would make his behaviour/attitude acceptable, and it isn't.
The only way I would welcome him back into the training sessions, with the rest of them, is were he to apologise and agree to stay for at least the whole of the season.
Or, if his attitude remained the same, if we had a good old fashioned, loyal clogger, who would give him a very solid welcoming tackle, to remind him that his behaviour could have a massive knock on effect that harms the future of all his current team mates.

 

To play devils advocate, but perhaps he doesn't see enough ambition in the boards plans for this summer/season to want to stay. That coupled with takeover uncertainty, perhaps he just feels that this is the best time for him to move on instead of being stuck in a potentially difficult season here.

 

I don't think the other players will be massively fussed, they will all know how football transfers work. You can see from other players who have left and that they still have good friendships that it doesn't appear to massively upset their current team mates
