Sorry this how I read your post....

 

1 - Agents are the main issue here. Clearly he's been in VVD's ear giving him the ideas and options of how to get his move. Ultimately his agent will earn a small fortune for this deal. All about the money.

2- We've missed a quality CB since Hypia left tbh and struggled for consistency since. So a CB like VVD would be a massive coup for us. For me I'm more excited about the possibility of signing Naby Keita. However, both would be incredible. Our window is either going to be amazing or totally ****ed.

Klopp has said he has his targets and doesn't want to budge and buy others. It's a massive month for Liverpool's future. Last time we qualified for the CL we royally ****ed up in the transfer window, this time that can't happen. But it is looking fairly likely right now.

 

So you have all the posters who fight with you on ignore. So basically you're just talking to me....and I'm not so struck now there is no lift to the Swansea game

True, although they are saying that we've allowed them to walk into the stock room and buy stuff before so they think they can do it again
But suggesting we've gone from a fire sale to saying **** off, is emotive nonsense
Saints are not responsible for the way the market works, they just have to play it the best way they can
And the stock items are young spoilt humans with opinions and attitudes who try to sneak out with the customers
There's a time to sell and a time to stand firm, but you need to look after the club and the team at all times

Climbing the slippery pole is a slow process but in Summer 2009 we had been relegated and were about to start in League 1 with -10pts
and Liverpool had finished 2nd in the Prem ... So while we've climbed 2&3/4 divisions they've dropped 2 places

Every club gets plundered by those above it
At least we are now being plundered by the CL teams and, maybe, more and more on OUR terms

It's only a matter of time anyway, I'm hoping we get 2 more seasons out of him and then he'll go for a world record fee (or close). I'm not so sure though, I suspect next summer.

 

Prices that rise sharply can often crash....they are particularly silly at the moment. A lot of teams will lose badly I think....financially if not on the football field.

 

We might get 2 from him if we get CL again, if he can see us improving and challenging for trophies then I think he'll stay. Not easy to do in this league though so much competition which is why we need big improvments like VVD, Salah and Keita. Oh and Andy Robertson.

 

I'd really like to know just how cunning they are, because to be honest in a weird, sadistic kind of way it is bloody impressive. For example, VVD signed a 6-year contract last year. Did the agent know back then exactly how he would play it this summer? Let's face it, that's probably a guarantee. And if that's the case, what's on the agenda for his next move?

I suspect he's not too happy with his agent tying him down to a 6 year deal with an average weekly wage. But he's certainly the driving force for this behaviour (imho).

It was clear early on that VVD wanted to leave. We then made that apology and backed out. The powers that be didn't take it any further due to lack of evidence (which Les may or may not have). We've most likely said to his agent we're not pushing this our end unless you get VVD to act out his end, it seems he's taking that advice now.

All a total shambles tbh.

EDIT: Also the agent would have known that the fee for getting VVD out from a 6 year contract would be huge. As we know the bigger the fee the more money the agent gets.

 

Inside knowledge has dried up a little on Southampton forums, but one chap who called the Fraser Forster contract has said we're close to signing a defender from Holland. If it turns out to be Veltman then we may see a move this window, but I think Saints will get a replacement first.

 

Did you recently sign a CB or was that one for the future? If you guys are in the market for another one (not sure if you are?) then that just fuels the fire that VVD will go sooner rather than later.

 

A lot of fans think we need another one to partner VVD anyway, so wouldn't read too much into links to a CB in the media.

John Barnes now being rolled out to give his opinion. Shows why he was such a great manager if he thinks Saints would wait until deadline day to sell him. This also made me laugh:

So minnows like Chelsea and City can go out and get deals done early but big club Liverpool have to scrabble about til the end of the window because they are a big club? Sounds legit
