Liverpool are now in a good position to buy Van Dijk as it makes more sense to sell an unhappy player, but they are so stupid that they we'll see this as a chance to try to tempt us with an ridiculously small offer which will infuriate us even more and we'll shut the door to their face second time this summer.

Sadly, It's not that simple. We bring in exciting prospects because they know we are a good side with lower expectations. They can flourish here and once proven in the PL the 'big boys' will waddle in furiously waving bank notes at them. If we hold them to their contracts when there is money being waved, then we won't find it so easy to bring exciting prospects to the club in the future. We are seen as a stepping stone club at the moment, which works with our model pretty well for the most part, as frustrating as it may be, it's served us well. If we end up selling VVD for £60m that's a fantastic profit for a player that's only played 1 and a half seasons for us. There are plenty of other factors too. We can't really afford to have our biggest earners doing nothing for years. And then there's the rest of the squad, which it could conceivably affect as he seemed like a popular chap. At least we've got a long contract to work with this time so should be able to rinse the prospective buyers.

    :emoticon-0148-yes:

And I think the way MP says he has dealt with it is spot on. He isn't for sale. (Does he want to play or hand in a transfer request?)
We sorted it with Morgan by getting his head back in the right place and he gave us a good season.
Maybe we didn't feel the need to do it with Lovren who's head was uncontactable anyway.
I do despair with these children, but its their football skills I want, not their life skills ... Que sera sera ... Les will have a contingency plan whatever occurs :emoticon-0103-cool:

In the meantime, whenever any **** hits any fan, me and Mrs S :emoticon-0152-heart just think of Oriel :emoticon-0152-heart:emoticon-0152-heart

    BUT on OUR terms

Shame he didn't have the self-awareness when they offered him the captaincy to say "You don't want to give it to me mate, I'll just throw it back in your face"

I wouldn't let him go until the last minute of the transfer window.
I wouldn't let him, or Liverpool, benefit from any pre-season training and team bonding, plus he'd miss a few games at the start of the season.
Not just saying this out of spite, but because we have no duty to make the transfer easy or to aid Liverpool's start to the season. F*** em.
As for VVD, as my dear old father in law used to say "May his goolies wither and drop off".
