From a business point of view, you might say get the most money you can get and don't cut off your nose to save your face, but, if you allow a player to call the tune despite being on a long contract, where will you be left the next time some toe rag decides to leave. If we refuse to sell Virgil, stop paying him if he won't play....then sell him for good money next season. We'll manage.

I also think it makes the board look a bit weak If we sell to Liverpool after all the fuss of reporting them.

 

I feel for the board here. They're in a no win situation really. Or very tough to win, anyway.

 

They have taken loads of our players, but if they pay the money and we sanction the sale and he believes they are the level of his ambition, then sell the ****er for as much money as possible.

For me, this was obviously when we didnt so much pursue the tapping up stuff...
