If a player with a sell-on clause is involved in a swap deal, the sell-on fee still has to be paid, it's just based on the market value of the player. Swap deals have been done to try and reduce sell-ons, by underestimating the value of one player and overestimating the value of the other, but they can be challenged (so they're generally declared as two completely separate deals). I wouldn't be surprised if we try and fiddle it a bit.
I remember us getting fiddled on this with Andy Payton leaving Boro for Septic but they may have changed the rules in the past 25 years.
I know, just hope we don't try to get too clever with it and work loaned players and other elements into it to minimize pay out to Dundee.
So Stewart on a perm and Kent on a loan. Id be happy with that. A bit like when we signed Thudd from spurs and got Livermore on a loan... Anyone remember their debut against Chelsea? Bruce brought them on at half time and it completely changed the game, we finally saw some real PL quality...
After I enquired about the 2 possible signings, I just had a reply from a Liverpool season ticket holding mate: Kent is a good little player and stands a chance. I'm not sure Stewart is good enough for the championship, bog standard central midfielder. Saying that, I do recall thinking the same about one S.Gerrard so this is another subject where I clearly know nothing. I hope your player is an improvement on Moreno. After I told him Stewart was the perm for £5m plus and Kent the loan he shared commiserations. I told him Robertson isn't better than Moreno. Check mate.
Original source says "up to". I'm hoping it's more like 4.5 + 500k for appearances + 3m for promotion, but who knows.
Would be a good signing, he was the stand out performer when I was watching the U23's play Liverpool U23's last season. Though £8M seems far too much, £2 or £3M more near what I think he would be worth.
IF it was 8m on another CM I'd feel like it's Mason all over again. Spunking a lot of money in a position not of the highest priority. We need to be spending money on CBs and wingers right now.
