Well that one crept up on me. Yeah, it is a great film. Would you believe I'd never heard of it until I watched 11.22.63, where the main male character from 2016 meets a woman in 1959. They chat that books are always better than the films that came after them [she had a copy of From Here To Eternity with her]. Then he said, "Yeah but what about The Manchurian Candidate ?". And she said, "Is that a film? I know the book" "No, it's not," he said, "but maybe they'll make one someday"

Which they did in 1962 and 2004. But it was the above chat that provoked me into watching the modern version, starring Denzel Washington, Liev Schreiber, and quite a quality supporting cast, including Meryl Streep and Jon Voight. It is about a small troop of US soldiers who are ambushed but who fight off the enemy due to one sergeant's extreme heroics. Or maybe that's not how it is. It's about the sergeant several years later vying to become Vice-President of the USA. It's about alternative realities. It's about mega business control and how a private individual, backed by mega business, can become the most powerful single person on the planet, with mega business drawing the strings. [That rang a few bells]. And it's about being able to trust nobody.
The officer from that band of brothers begins to realise that something seriously does not add up in his reality anymore and he sets out to find out if the same is true for all his compatriots, especially the ex-sergeant, now congressman, as he is easily the most successful and easy to find. He's also the one who possibly carries the secret. What follows is a web of intrigue that occasionally is in danger of swallowing the film itself, but strong performances and direction [Jonathan Demme] drive the story along, and although there is the odd "wtf is going on here?" moment it always remains an interested enquiry, as the story twists this way and that.
FLT reckons it's a great film and I agree, on an exciting story which keeps you intrigued. And let's face it, there aren't that many of those these days. Heartily recommended.

Yeah, particularly as it kept cutting to his face. The kid from This is England made an appearance as well. Arya will probably kill them all.

Game of Thrones S07E01 spoiler warning

I'm ok with these famous people making small cameos that blend into the background as many have done before, but Ed was in it far too much. Ruined the scene completely. I hope they learn from that and don't do it again. But yeah, it was an awesome episode to kick off this penultimate season. Aryas/Walders opening sequence was so satisfying. Lots of problems with timescales etc. but that's only for the real nitpickers to work up a fuss about. It did seem like Arya was going to kill that small group of Lannister soldiers, but then realised they were decent and didn't really want to be there fighting in someone elses war. It was quite a random scene really with no conclusion. But anyway. Oooo zombie giants in the army of the undead! (I was thinking it was going to be zombie hodor). Jorah the explorer isn't looking in a good way. But Sam will sort him out and sow the seeds for the Jon/Daenerys team up. With so many of the charcters having teamed up now, we saw pretty much all the major charcters in one episode. Bring on episode 2!

Just seen that banning gender stereotypes in advertising is being considered. Obviously you can be too offensive, but in general it's just funny. People laugh when they recognise a little half truth about life. Will there be any humour in the future? Just heard someone say that it's about time they had a female Dr Who....because the Tardis must need a real cleaning by now. I just smiled....as a woman who considers that dust is there to protect the furniture. :) I wish people would just lighten up. The standard seems to be now that you can't say anything if someone would be offended...there are people who are ready to be offended by anything. In one area of the country they are attempting to eradicate grey squirrels to give the reds a chance....now people are free to object to the idea of killing greys for humane principles, but the man in charge has been accused of ....wait for it...drum roll...racism. And apparently not the joke you would presume.

Didn't get much of a sleep last night! My bedroom is in the loft and the rain was smashing down heavily on the roof and the booms of thunder kept waking me up if I managed to drift off. Looks like there was a fair bit of flooding in Southampton yesterday evening/overnight

Combination of my tinnitus, the thunderstorms, and [OK, this was the real deal] my drinking a strong coffee around 11pm last night, had me reaching for my ASMR mp3 that works every time. And it did again. People swear by this stuff, and occasionally I get the tingles too, but generally I find them immensely relaxing. What I can't do is ultimately relax while watching an ASMR video, so I stripped the sound off my new favourite one and I play it on my phone through in-ear phones. The woman who does the particular video is probably the most popular on Youtube. She's a Russian ex-pat, living in the USA. 90% of her videos are in English, but she also does a few in Russian. The first time I heard her whisper Russian it was bloody fantastic. I was asleep in seconds.

Just read it in detail...he's lost his kneecap and will need reconstructive surgery and after lying there for 3 days with no food or water, he had to be carried for 2 hours to get help. Now that has to have hurt:emoticon-0101-sadsm
