Well that ****ed my joke up, are there girl Darleks? "Menstruminate! Menstruminate!" How am I doing here @Bodinki ?
Just to be clear, the Character isnt called Doctor Who, HE is called the Doctor. The show is called Doctor "Who" as a sort of running joke that you never get to learn HIS name.
What did you think when they changed the Master into a woman? Can't say I'm a fan of Michelle Gomez and her interpretation. Personally I think the last few series with Moffat and Capaldi have been poor, in fact I'd take it further back and say the introduction of Clara was the turning point, Clara being one of the worst companions going. Think Capaldi has been let down by Moffat doing his usual thing of trying to show how clever he is and that he's too clever for the show (the last series of Sherlock was poor in comparison). Not that there hasn't been some good episodes along the way, this last series of Dr Who seemed a bit lacklustre. Be interesting with the new Producer
Just the idea of transgender Time Lords is ****ing ridiculous. It was something not introduced until a couple of seasons ago by Moffat. For instance, the Doctor has a mother and a father, he has mentioned them many times.... Which gave birth to him? How does he identify which one is which? He has a granddaughter, could he get a grandson instead? Likewise, does Susan call him Grandmother, instead of Grandfather now? I could have swallowed maybe a one off time lord swapping genders, like a regeneration malfunction, or something as some sort of story line, but it looks like it is something they are making commonplace now. It has happened 3 times with 3 different timelords (The Master, that Time lord captain guy who regenerated from a old white guy into a young black woman, and now the Doctor himself). The idea that it is something common place, but they haven't mentioned it in the 54 years the show has been running, and that the Doctor has had 12 male personas in a row, when there was always a 50/50 chance he could become a woman? And do you think it is a coincidence that the Doctor picks up a Female Lesbian companion, just as he is about to regenerate into a woman? I mean for ****s sake.....I consider myself quite left, but come on, ****ing hell!!!
Its really simple imo. This is making people talk and thats the point. When this Dr is done it will be back to a male role just the way it is.
I don't think that will happen to be honest. I honestly don't think the show will survive beyond this female doctor. For a start the American audience will tune off straight away, as well as a lot of old time loyalists. This is the beginning of the end..... I can understand the desire to have more kick arse female leads in sci-fi and fantasy etc, and I am all for it. SO ****ING CREATE ONE THEN..... Dont hijack a pre-existing show thats been running for 54 years and change the ****ing gender of the lead character, a character who, I might add, has been a cultural icon in this country for over half a century. It does a disservice to the fans and quite frankly, to women imo. That a lead female character can only succeed on the back of 54 years of a male led show. It's ****ing daft. Some ****ing morons will call "misogyny" but this is the furthest from misogyny, it really is. I would be sat here saying the same thing if they had changed a 54 year old female character into a man. Its not that it was changed from a man to a woman, but that it was changed Full stop!! I would be equally pissed if they rebooted Buffy the Vampire Slayer, for example, but changed the lead to a guy. Its aaarrrrgh. Too angry
Given what they did with top gear I would presume as long as someone is talking about it they will make out you all watched it on player after they all click into it 1000 times at work each week.
