No offense was taken CH. No point going over the same stuff again, but there is more wrong tham the CB issue and the midfield is one of them. We can't play those four players (that started) together in my opinion - all too similar. Of those, Leadbitter was bloody awful and, before anyone says he was played out of position, that does not excuse his complete lack of interest and commitment throughout the game and Bowyer hasn't yet provided the 'bite' in the middle that I thought he would (and his passing was pretty poor). There are factors to be considered along the lines of building/rebuilding, shortage of quality but, as much as anything, we could also look to fix the attitude / approach / lack of confidence thing that seems to be preventing players from playing to their potential.
Roy Keane = Peter Grant Paul Jewell = Glen Rodent Journeyman players strolling around playing for a 'nice' club like 1p5wich, picking up a nice pay-cheque ! Soo many spooky similarities, not actually taking the piss here boys although it would be soo easy to do so. It ain't looking good is it ?
You're so far from the truth, deluded doesn't even begin to explain how stupid your comments are. Please compare Jewell's record to Rodent and tell me how they are similar and who are these 'journeymen' you are referring to. The Keane comparison is wrong as well, Keane is a far worse manager than Grant ever was!
"You're so far from the truth, deluded doesn't even begin to explain how stupid your comments are. Please compare Jewell's record to Rodent and tell me how they are similar and who are these 'journeymen' you are referring to." Choppra, Bowyer, to name but two from your current squad. Bury your heads in the sand if you wish, you have been warned. Fact is the 'buck' stops at the top, Marcus Evans what an absolute joke he is! If he was soo proud to own his 'beloved' Ipswich, then why the **** doesn't he have the balls to 'front up' to Town fans and tell them just what his long term plans are for the club? Why the **** does he want to be the hermit that he is ? Still, it ain't our problem is it ? Shame, cos the next 'old farm' derby looks so very far away (unless we draw each other in the third round of the F.A. Cup!)
I hate to say it but I completely agree with you Kick it in! Going to Portman Road is like watching car crash TV every week!
Sorry Hoppers, you are indeed right, I miss read your post but the point still stands about the CB issue. And yes I was being a litte overzelous calling Martin superb, he looked decent and lively but JET did look superb. Rushmere adressing your points: "The majority of signings have been great" - We have got an England goalkeeper who has been "superb", not much he could do about last night. Cresswell looks like the best LB we've had in years. Chopra was class last night and is one of the best strikers in the division. JET has bags of potential. Andrews looked pretty solid last night. Bowyer i thought was a waste of space although yes his past reputation is unquestionable. On paper for the amount we have got these players for I would say Jewell has done well in the transfer market so far. "Martin looked superb"- He was not superb, like I said I got a little overzelous with than one but he gave us some pace and was lively. ""Let PJ build a squad first" - quite right but let's not use that as an excuse for everything that was wrong last night." - you are quite right, I was was critizing fans for not critizing Keane before he had had much time. He needs to get 2 CB's in and the formation and starting line up was wrong last night but I think he will get it right, so many things are happening at ITFC atm with players not fit/injured, signings to come in, new signing bedding in, I think we need the situation to settle down before we get to concerned. I think you do give some good valid points Rushmere.
We have been rebuilding more times than DIY SOS FFS and we still cant get it right! We've been in transition now since Joe Royle left nearly 6 years ago! When are you lot going to wake up and realise that Evans will not be dipping his hand in his pocket for the real quality players that we need. Every year for the last 6 years I keep reading this bollocks about needing time to gel! Paul Jewell is a professional manager and yet he can't see what is blatantly obvious!
Just an idea... but why the hell don't we start by fixing what we can fix now. Then go from there. 1) Introduce the players to each other pre game 2) Tell them where they are supposed to be playing 3) Let them know that they are currently the best we have so play with some pride for the shirt or, at worst, at least play for your salary. 4) Dump the ones that make no / little effort or have a piss poor attitude and replace with bloody academy players if needs be. 5) Don't play anyone on past reputation alone. 5) Stop players bitching at each other one the pitch and get them playing as a team 6) Summary - make the best of what we have at the moment. All of the above can be done NOW. 7) Get in the transfer market, stop being tight with the purse strings (if that's what it is) and get the players in that we need.
PJ has built a team just like Keane on past reputations. Players that are well past their best and just looking for a last pay packet. Bowyer, ingimarrson and Ellington all fall into this category. Then he goes and picks the quietest most anonymous player from the team and makes him ruddy captain! He lets a decent centre half Troy Brown leave for nothing at the same time keeps Tommy Smith who should not be let anywhere near a football pitch! He wasn't even good enough for Colly last year. Last night he plays with 4 Centre Midfielders! These are fundamental mistakes and if it had been Keane we would be slating him for it and rightly so. PJ needs to get a grip on reality and PDQ!
Lambert played identically to Holt did last year and we had no answer. Won every first ball, dragged players out wide with space behind for others to run into and gave a rather incompetent team no end of problems. The fact that we didnt attempt one tackle in the whole game really didnt change the overall feeling that we were totally outclassed
Unfortunately we have been yes but I think with Jewell it geniunely is the biggest rebuilding of a squad that any of the managers has had to do in recent times. Magilton basically had to rebuild from scratch when Royle left but I think there was probably less pressure on him then because ME hadn't come in with the money at that time. When he left our squad was pretty strong and did not need rebuilding just adding a bit of quality to but unfortunately Keane saw otherwise and dismantled it. When Keane left we had a very poor squad with alot of players unlikely to sign new contracts. So this time PJ has had to basically had to start from scratch maybe but he has a greater pressure due to the ME era. I for one certainly would have been critisizing mr Keane for that formation, but however strange it was we weren't defensive, which is a good thing I wonder how many we would have conceded if we would have been defensive but think Keane was making soo many erratic decisions at the beggining of his era but no one critisized him like Jewell has been after this game and we didn't win a game until november I think and that Newcastle performance was certainly alot worse than the one last night.
