A Liverpool supporter thinks Kent would be a big upgrade on Markovic, so I guess it could be a good one.. Still just hoping for CBs..!!
Bit of an exaggeration saying people think hes a world beater, hes simply performed better than our other keepers, but nowt like twisting statements to make a point
Not seen alot of him but won barnsleys young player of the year award Can play right and left wing Scored 3 plus one assist in 33ish games
I'm not irate at anybody, people are free to feel as they choose, I just don't see the point in getting annoyed. If anything, its the people who are annoyed getting hacked off at people like me for not being more angry. Why would Slutsky sign low quality players, we have a scouting team? He probably had a list of targets before he got the job, I wouldn't have thought any of them were low quality given his knowledge of the English game. Take Kalas, for example. A proven Championship centre half who has been capped fully by the Czech Republic. So he's obviously wanted by several other teams in our division. It was never going to be cut and dry, it takes time and there are loads of factors to weigh in. It might be the player himself taking time to assess his options. Any player we sign from another club will have been going through pre season with their own club anyway, even free agents train mostly train with other clubs to keep fit, so this talk of getting players up to fitness is nonsense. If they aren't fit they'll fail the medical. If we sign Kalas, he'll come in, Slutsky will tell him how he wants him to play (probably no different to how he did at Fulham) and he'll crack on, there's no point over-complicating it.
You're basing this on what? He's that bad warnock who had him since January was desperate to sign him.
No, but I wouldn't have thought somebody who was 6 months away from fitness would have boarded a plane to a training camp and taken part in training sessions there. I'm guessing Dave didn't go?
Don't disagree but Bruce's first two signings were a depth RB who we never really used and a kid from L1 that not many had heard of. Making signings to get bodies through the door can at least provide comfort for players who might start to get edgy at a lack of business otherwise. Getting some depth players in should be relatively straight forward. ** First two signings post relegation of course**
Absolutely, but I'd have thought that would come after signing first team players, otherwise it would be difficult to convince the squad players to sign.
Surely you have that backwards? Harder to attract a better quality of player whereas depth would be more happy to sign particularly if there's some hope of getting a good run of games?
And for most of his time with us sat on the bench or even further behind, when picked to play, the cup games he did his job. Even when we blew 5 million on a keeper we didn't need he just sat bidding his time ( I know it's easy when getting paid ) and then when his chance came he took it with both hands. We ended up with too many keepers at different levels of value, pay and contract and he was the one most likely to go. Sad but true.
It's not fitness that's going to be the issue, it's his mental state and the risk of further damage. Slutsky's comments about there being no reason why he couldn't return this season didn't sound like that return was anywhere near imminent.
Well if I was a player trying to sign, I'd be less inclined to do so if I knew I wasn't going to be first choice. I'd go somewhere where I'd be playing more. I suppose it depends on how driven the player is.
Precisely why a depth player would be more inclined to sign if they were signed before any better prospects were signed..
But aren't you going to get that regardless of when he comes back? I'm not saying we should rush it, quite the opposite, but I can't see it being 6 months. If he was that psyched out by it I don't think he'd be training already.
Ah I see what you mean. But then wouldn't that piss off the player when we signed somebody higher profile in the same position?
