Is this guy as good as some people think he might be, or would he get found out at a top team where the pressure would be really on him? He's fun to watch at the moment, thats for sure.
At the moment, I agree, he's fun to watch. Certainly a good driver - 2010 made that clear to us. I think his real test would be how he copes against a quick teammate. He hasn't really been tested in that respect. I'd like to see him in a more competitive car.
Im a big fan of him since race 1 in brazil. He has Talent no doubt but I fear that because he has no major backing he will find it hard to get to the top. Hopefully one of the top teams will give him a shout. Imagine him in a Red BULL!!
He's actually a very understated character. He seems to just go out and race and nothing and nobody phases him! Could he cope with the politics of a top team? Not sure he would successfully play that game as half the time he's oblivious. I do think the pressure and expectation would go over his head and he'd just get on with it. He was a lot more sensible last year and I think played down the Kobaybashi status but he has no fear and sometimes he is brilliant.
If he could keep that fearless attitude and had a race-winning car, he could be unstoppable. Would he ever get a chance though, who knows.
On the note of quick team mate - I kind of understand that when pitched up against somebody of equal capability but you can tell when a drivers quick, how good he is at overtaking by how he approaches it, the line he takes, how late he brakes. There is so much more to assessing a drivers talent than comparison to team mate.
One of my favourite drivers simply because he is ruthless when overtaking. He has a Hamilton etc. style of overtaking which is a pleasure to watch. I hope he gets a better race seat in the future. He has improved I think, the only flaw he's got is he may be TOO aggressive. If Sauber drop down the order a bit this year, it'll be a real shame, because he has proved he can get in the way of the front runners and cause a good race. not only that, but it'll be bad for the fans;there are not many drivers like him that would through the car round as he does.
Got to agree with this. No other new driver has made quite such a buzz on arrival in a poor team in a while. Even Hulkenberg, who performed reasonably well, wasn't getting as many plaudits for the way he drives.
And I'm afraid it will be the same with Pastor Maldonado, if he is as good in an F1 car as well as a GP2 car. Sergio Perez will be treated like Kobayashi was last year as well. Hopefully he can also throw the stereotypes of rookie drivers down the drain!
Dont the BBC hold the rights to broadcast GP2 but they dont grrr. Everytime I go to silverstone, I do enjoy the GP2 races as they are sometimes more exciting than the F1 race
I don't think so El_Bando - I watch it on Eurosport - I have to pay a pound extra a month on my Sky subscription for the privilege! Thy are really good. I'm an ART supporter myself. There is always more overtaking which makes live viewing great too. Sam Bird was the unluckiest driver for car reliability last year that I've ever seen! I remember watching the GP2 at Monza 2008 on ITV4. The races there were fantastic, mainly because they had the worst of the wet weather before the F1 lot
oh I thought the GP2 rights come with the F1 package? maybe not then. I used to watch it all the time when it was on ITV
I could be wrong but I don't even think GP2 is an FIA championship is it? I think their closest feeder series is F2.
Oh I watched Turkey as well that year cause I remember a dog got onto the track, and Bruno Senna hit it, boy was he not happy
That Cameraman (assuming it wasn't fixed) must have the biggest balls in the world. That or the wettest pants.
