Cricket over tennis for me, even if it is Federer. The avatar didn't work did it? More mildly amusing than incredibly funny anyway.
No mate, Middlesex were red hot favourites at 1/2......was a **** bet but I'd had a bad week and needed some fun.....I could of gone but couldn't be arsed to put on a suit, so watched it at home in my shorts
That's conjured up a lovely mental image Stainesy I was going to go and was looking for tickets when I realised I had to host a pub quiz. I watched Surrey bat and recorded the Middx innings and watched it when I got home. Great game.
Let me know if you want to go to a game at Lords and I might be able to sort it out for you. A fella I work with is a member and can sort tickets if you let me know early enough. I was in the Pavillion last year for a 20/20, having a beer next to Johnny Ball....was a rather surreal moment. I'd also recommend the 20/20 games at Uxbridge and Old Deer Park...always good for a laugh
LOL......funnily enough my winnings bought me a bottle of JD Tennessee Fire, which I'm almost 3/4 through in 2 days....just a little treat
It was a very enjoyable evening Nines. Middlesex were coasting to victory before losing three quick wickets, leaving last man Steven Finn to walk out to the middle with 6 runs still needed. Batting hero that he is, he caressed one to the boundary for the winning runs. It was a full house, but I was a little disappointed by the lack of atmosphere, with most people around us seeming to be more interested in eating than watching the game.
That was one of my observations about Sunday, it doesn't show on the telly but there is a constant movement of people up and down during play to get food, drink or go to the loo.
Wasn't that always the case? Except through exceptionally tense passages of play. I remember being surprised at all the wandering around at first class and test matches in the 70s, and it was the same in Australia, though one day games were more intense. Even more baffling when there were no big screen replays. Mind you, compared to my experiences at US sporting events (ice hockey aside), it's all very focussed. Over there the game seems incidental to the feasting.
Anderson mops up the tail and SA 335 all out. The ball was moving around and England may have a difficult start, especially against Philander who is very accurate...
I think Lord's is worse than other test grounds for this. There are always more people there than at other grounds who see it more as a social occasion than a sporting event. I used to love it in the 70s and 80s when there was standing in front of the Tavern bar. It used to get properly raucous then. On a separate sporting subject, it seems it's not just football in this country where dates and times are changed willy-nilly. I've just been notified by New York Yankees that the start of the game against Boston Red Sox that we have tickets for has been changed from 1.05 pm to 8.05 pm, with no explanation given. Not really a problem for us, but I imagine many would be inconvenienced.
Good time for TV on both coasts would be my guess. That baseball game has the chance of going on very late indeed, interesting to see how many stay until the end. Two Classic teams to see though, enjoy! I'd forgotten all about the Tavern, it was where my Dad would make a beeline for.
Ballance fails again!! Hopefully Bairstow and Root can stage a good partnership. If Stokes comes in too early, he'll buckle under the pressure as he often does.
